One wealthy home buyer is hitching their wagon to a trailer after purchasing a mobile home in the Hamptons for $3.75 million.

An off-market listing for an oceanfront home in Montauk is currently in contract for nearly $4 million. At that rate, the 800-square-foot property comes out to an estimated $5,000 per foot.

The sale sets a new record for the highest recorded sale per square foot, according to reports

As one of the most sought after property hotspots in the nation, the Hamptons regularly sees even the smallest of lots go for top dollar. In 2022, a trailer home in the Hamptons sold for $1.85 million, and several other mobile homes have gone for anywhere between $675,000 to $1.4 million.

The man representing the buyer of the trailer said he believes the area’s amenities are what attracts potential customers.

‘The Ditch Plains area in general is very special,’ said Will Gold, an agent with Douglas Elliman who is working with the buyer. Ditch Plains is an exclusive East Hamptons beach region.

‘It is an oasis for surfers and beachgoers, and in the past several years has been subject to an extraordinary amount of growth and transformation,’ Gold told The New York Post

‘Especially since COVID, individuals and families have realized the value of oceanfront communities and are paying up for it.’

The home was custom-designed by John Hummel, who works with home buyers in some of New York’s most lucrative communities.

Equipped with two beds and two baths, the trailer hosts panoramic ocean views and overlooks 25 acres. Inside, the new homeowner will enjoy luxury amenities and classy finishes.

While it may not stack up to the most lavish homes in the celebrity hotspot, the pricey motor home has everything a homeowner will need, including a gas burning fireplace, a private deck, and an ensuite bathroom attached to the master bedroom.

‘Especially since COVID, individuals and families have realized the value of oceanfront communities and are paying up for it,’ Gold said.

‘This beachfront row of units in “Montauk Shores” is the perfect exclusive opportunity to enjoy everything Ditch Plains has to offer,’ he continued.

And although the hefty price tag may seem steep, the new owner will find themselves nearby to high-profile Hamptons residents such as Beyoncé, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr.

The trailer home is located in the ultra-exclusive Montauk Shores development, which has recently become the home to multiple billionaires, according to one real estate agent.

The Hamptons community comes with swimming pools, a recreational center, a playground, and a basketball court.

‘I know quite a few billionaires here,’ said architect Fred Stelle, who also lives in the opulent area.

‘The most appealing aspect is the park’s quality of life. It’s a classic throwback to a summer community — relaxed and low-key in a funky way, like what Southern California must have been like in the 1950s, and it’s safe for kids,’ Stelle continued.
