Agbonlahor and Villa fans criticise club’s Champions League ticket prices

Former Aston Villa player Gabby Agbonlahor is among the fans urging the club to rethink its Champions League ticket prices.

The Villans finished fourth in the Premier League last campaign, earning them a spot in Europe’s top competition for the first time in 41 years.

But the excitement building at Villa Park about being back in the Champions League has been dulled by the news of just how much it will cost fans to witness it.

Unai Emery’s side will host four group games, taking on Bayern Munich, Bologna, Juventus and Celtic from October to January.

In the 1888 seats, which run alongside the directors’ box at the top of the Trinity Road Stand, any ticket will cost a mind-blowing £97 and £82 for season ticket holders – including under-18s.

In Zone 1, adults, over 66s and under-21s, armed forces and under-18s will all pay £94 each, with prices dropping to £79 for season ticket holders.

Zone 2 requires adults to continue to pay £94 and £79 for season ticket holders.

Meanwhile, over 66s and under-21s will be charged £83.50 (£73.50 for season ticket holders), armed forces will be charged £85 (£75) and under-18s will pay £30 (£20).

The cheapest adult ticket fans can buy will be £85 (£70 for season ticket holders) in Zone 4 of Villa Park.

By comparison, Newcastle and Liverpool charged far less for their Champions League clashes.

Last season, the Magpies charged adult season ticket holders £55 for the group stage, while concessions paid £30.

Liverpool’s highest price for a Champions League clash this season, meanwhile, is £61, which gets your a ticket in the main stand.

The cheapest adult ticket is £9 in the main stand upper, with all other age categories also charged this price in this area.

Over-65s pay £45.75, young adults pay £30.50 and juniors are charged just £9.

And fans, even ones beyond the Villa fan base, are upset by the hike in pricing, including from talkSPORT’s Agbonlahor.

Gabby Agbonlahor Believes Aston Villa Can Go Unbeaten In The Champions League After The Draw!

“I have to say tickets for the champions league are very expensive for loyal fans! Family of four nearly £400. Club has to do better,” Agbonlahor said on X.

“These prices are an absolute liberty from Aston Villa,” one fan wrote on X.

“The first time they’ve been in the competition from 41 years and they’re charging fans this much to attend.”

“Disgraceful pricing,” another said.

A third said: “Absolute disgrace. Different prices for non STH? What a kick in the b****** for the unfortunate fans who can’t go as regularly. Same price to watch us play Bologna as Bayern Munich?

“Zone 1 a parent will pay nearly £200 for them and one child. You’re waging war on fans.”

“Please please review this,” a fourth said, tagging Villa president Chris Heck. “You obviously don’t understand the fans at all.

“It’s our first time back in the big time, in over 40 years, and you’ve used it to absolutely, fleece us. I’m so angry at this, how are we supposed to afford £94 a ticket.”

In their press release for the Champions League, Villa also stated all home Carabao Cup matches and the first home fixture in the FA Cup will be priced at £25 for adults and £10 for children in all areas of the Stadium.

Villa get their Champions League campaign underway against Swiss side BSC Young Boys away on September 17.
