Robert Jenrick on top in first round of Tory leadership race as Priti Patel eliminated

Mr Jenrick secured the backing of 28 Tory MPs, putting him six ahead of Kemi Badenoch who finished in second place with 22 – we’ve got a full breakdown of the results here. Grenfell deaths ‘all avoidable’, says inquiry chairman

The deaths of 72 people in the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017 were “all avoidable”, the chairman of the inquiry into the disaster has said. A final report released today found the fire was caused by the “systematic dishonesty” of construction companies that manufactured the cladding for the tower block’s refurbishment.
