Bet of the day

Austria to beat Slovenia @ 21/20

It’s not in the realms of fairytales to suggest that Austria may have gone close to lifting the Euro 2024 trophy with a little more fortune in the summer and Das Team can get their Nations League campaign off to a winning start in Slovenia.

Ralf Rangnick’s men have lost only three of their last 20 matches, they have beaten top-level sides Italy and Germany in that impressive run and the former Man Utd gaffer has his side playing some blistering football.

Austria were beaten 2-1 by Turkey at the last-16 stage of Euro 2024, but Das Team won the shot count 21-6, the corner count 10-4 and they put up an expected goals tally of 3.14 in that extremely unfortunate defeat.

Had things gone a little more in Austria’s favour, we may well be talking about one of Europe’s elite sides, and Das Team would not be 21/20 shots to win in Slovenia.

Matjaz Kek’s Slovenia side are without a victory in their last five matches. They have scored only three goals in that winless run and they are unlikely to be able to stop an energetic, attack-minded and high-tempo Austrian side.

Special of the day

Over 2.5 goals in Iceland v Montenegro @ 11/10

There have been 28 goals in Iceland’s nine matches and that trend for forward action looks set to continue in Reykjavík.

Montenegro make the long trip north in free-scoring form, having found the net in 11 of their last 12 matches, but the Brave Falcons have struggled to close the door defensively.

Robert Prosinecki’s side have conceded ten goals in their last four away games and that includes allowing five strikes in contests against Lithuania and Hungary.

That said, Montenegro will be targeting a positive result in Reykjavík, which could lead to an open match.

Backing over 2.5 goals look worth a punt in this Nations League B contest

Long shot of the day

Italy to beat France @ 19/5

France have a roster packed full of quality, but Les Bleus failed to dazzle at Euro 2024 and Didier Deschamps’ men could be vulnerable against an Italy side on the comeback trail.

Ferland Mendy, Aurelien Tchouameni and Wesley Fofana have all withdrawn from the French squad and reports suggest that Kylian Mbappe could be rested for the tie with Italy.

Those absentees certainly weaken France and Les Bleus look pretty short in the market on Friday.

Italy have a young squad who should be able to progress, and in manager Luciano Spalletti they have the right man to improve Azzuri fortunes.

At 19/5 there is enough in the price to chance Italy winning in Paris.
