Draper VOMITS on court four times during US Open semi-final defeat to Sinner

Jack Draper was sick four times on court during his US Open semi-final defeat to Jannik Sinner.

The Brit appeared to be feeling the effects of the humidity in New York during his first ever Grand Slam semi-final.

In the second set, he vomited on the court twice and then cleaned up his own sick with his towel.

Remarkably, he carried on playing and did not seek help from a doctor initially.

He eventually got help at the change of ends as he tried to cool himself down with ice packs.

Speaking on commentary, Tim Henman said: “Sometimes when it’s humid as it obviously is with all the sweat. You can almost drink too much water and it sits in your stomach and I think that’s twice that Draper has vomited.”

Jonathan Overend added: “Poor guy. I mean, you feel like that, that’s happening, you’ve got to clear it up yourself you’ve got to carry on playing against the world No. 1.”

The sweat continued to be an issue as he went through two pairs of shoes and was even struggling to grip his racket at points.

It is not the first time Draper has been sick on court, as he vomited in a bin after a gruelling five-set match at the Australian Open in January.

On vomiting during his US Open match against Jannik Sinner, Draper said: “It’s a big occasion for me. I’m someone who is quite an anxious human being, when you add that together I do feel a bit of nausea sometimes on court’

When pushed on what caused it, he added: “Yeah, I mean, obviously it was extremely humid today. Hasn’t been pretty much the whole week as of yet.

“I think it was obviously a very physical match. Obviously that’s why Jannik is the No. 1 player in the world, because when you play the top players, the intensity is different.

“It’s a step up. I think obviously it’s a big occasion for me. I definitely felt, even though I generally feel pretty relaxed and stuff, I definitely felt more excited today, a few more nerves around.

“I’m definitely someone who is, I think, quite an anxious human being. I think when you add all that together sometimes I do feel a bit nausea on court, and I do feel a little bit sick when it gets tough. Yeah, I didn’t have any problems before the match, but it obviously just built up.”

Sinner secured the first set 7-5, but there was a moment of concern for him moments after Draper was sick.

He appeared to injure his wrist and required medical treatment in a truly mad few minutes that saw both men need attention at the same time.

Sinner took the second set in a tie break, seemingly overcoming any issues with that wrist.

He took the third set with ease as Draper continued to struggle physically.

Sinner himself reached his second Grand Slam final of 2024.

He won the Australian Open in January, his first Grand Slam victory.

Speaking after his victory, Sinner said: “First of all, me and Jack know each other well. We are good friends. It was a physical match. I just tried to stay there mentally.

“He’s so tough to beat. It’s a special occasion. Thanks everyone for coming to support us. It was amazing. Just happy to be in the final here.”

Sinner will face either Frances Tiafoe or Taylor Fritz in the final as they battle on Friday night.

It will be the first time an American man will be in the US Open final since Andy Roddick in 2006.
