Popular NFL TV star forced to apologize for ‘unfair’ Tom Brady criticism

Scott Hanson was far from the only one who thought that Tom Brady needed to show more excitement.

But Hanson is the internationally popular host of ‘NFL Red Zone‘ on the NFL Network.

So when Hanson took a jab at Brady — playful or not — on Sunday, the televised comments from the Red Zone host didn’t go unnoticed.

“Oh come on,” Hanson said. “Brady has gotta get more excited than that in the booth.”

Many fans agreed, citing Brady’s flat performance and odd conversation style during the Dallas Cowboys‘ 33-17 road victory over the Cleveland Browns.

“So much awkward silence from Tom Brady during the first quarter of his broadcast,” one fan tweeted.

“Tom Brady can’t seem to form any sentences that have any sort of normal cadence to them,” a second fan posted.

“Just an FYI and I know it’s early but Greg Olsen is much better at this than Tom Brady,” a third fan wrote.

Hanson’s comments followed a 66-yard field goal attempt by Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey before the end of the first half.

The kick was good and would have tied Justin Tucker for an NFL record.

But it was wiped out by a penalty, and the ensuing discussion saw Brady basically ignore the amazing athletic feat from Aubrey.

As the Cowboys lined up for a potential 71-yard attempt, Brady was more focused on the Browns placing a returner near the field-goal post.

“They got to cover if it doesn’t go in,” Brady calmly said.

A timeout followed, preventing the record attempt.

But while FOX co-host Kevin Burkhardt recognized how surreal a 71-yard kick would be, Brady kept playing it straight and bottled any emotion.

“Maybe everyone is going to rethink this one,” the seven-time Super Bowl winner said.

As Hanson’s lack of ‘excited”‘ comments began to find their way through the internet, he took to social media to apologize.

“This was unfair & inconsiderate by me,” Hanson tweeted. “Yes, I was saying it tongue in cheek – but I didn’t calculate how it may come across.

“@TomBrady, I apologize. I promise I am rooting you on in this new venture!”

So are NFL fans. But many want to see and hear an improved Brady in Week 2.

“Where’s the insight, Tom Brady?” a fan posted. “Notably absent.”

“This is the guy that won (seven) Super Bowls,” a second fan said. “Tom Brady needs to do more play breakdown pre-snap. I want Tom Brady calling the game like he’s QB.”

They also didn’t like the fact that Hanson apologized after comments that many perceived to be accurate and on target.

“Good grief, so the guy can’t receive constructive criticism?” one tweeted. “Don’t apologize for being correct.”

“The guy got roasted this year,” a second fan wrote. “He can take it.”

“Shouldn’t have to apologize for being right!” a third fan said.
