Aston Villa v Everton preview

Aston Villa head into their Premier League fixture this season as odds on favourites for victory against Everton, having started the new season strongly with two wins from their opening three encounters.

Unai Emery’s side have picked up away victories in the league against West Ham and Leicester, only dropping points against an Arsenal side widely tipped be fighting for the title once again at the end of the season.

Six points from three games for the Villans leaves them seventh in the table heading into this weekend’s fixture following last week’s international break, just one point off the top three at the start of the weekend.

The West Midlands side will be forgiven for having half an eye on their upcoming Champions League fixture on Tuesday evening, which will be their first match in Europe’s elite competition in 41 years, when they take on Young Boys in Bern next week.

Everton have endured a difficult start to the new campaign, their final one playing their home matches at Goodison Park, a place they’ve called home for 133 years since 1892, having suffered defeat in each of their opening three league games this season.

Sean Dyche’s side currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table heading into the weekend as one of two teams yet to pick up a point as yet, along with Southampton.

The Toffees fell to a home defeat in their opening clash of the season, losing 3-0 to Brighton before being beaten 4-0 by Tottenham, which preceded a capitulation at home against Bournemouth in their final match before last week’s international break.

Everton were 2-0 up heading into the 87th minute of the match but conceded three goals in the closing stages against the Cherries to have all three of their points snatched away from them to leave them bottom of the Premier League table, with a -8 goal difference from three games.

Aston Villa have won five of their last six league games against Everton, who are winless in their last 10 in the league against the West Midlands side.

Everton can take confidence from the knowledge they did secure victory in their most recent visit to Villa Park though, earning a 2-1 win in the third round of the EFL Cup last season.
