I’m a travel expert, this is why you should always choose the ‘worst seat’ on a plane

Most travellers would opt for either a window seat to check out the view or an aisle seat, where there’s more room to stretch your legs.

However travel writer John Burfitt, from Sydney, Australia, has revealed why you should always choose the worst seat on a plane.

He claimed the window seat at the very back of the plane, near the toilets is actually the best seat in the house.

Despite its closeness to the bathroom and inevitably being the last person off the plane,  the position apparently has its perks.

Writing for escape.com.au he said: ‘It’s impossible for anyone to kick the back of your seat. You are tucked away, so you will also never get hit by a flight attendant wielding a trolley, be bumped by passing passengers or have them grab your seat as they pass. And when you want to sleep, lean into the corner against the wall and doze off.’

The travel expert revealed he previously endured a few flights where someone kicked the back of his seat on the entire journey while they were trying to get ‘comfortable’.

It also happened on another occasion a few months later and after that, he vowed to never sit in front of anyone.

When he realised the last seat on the plane has a wall behind it, he decided that would be his chosen option from now on.

He added: ‘I have happily paid extra to book the back-row-of-cabin-in-the-corner-seat and, on occasion, even changed my travel dates to secure it.’

John went onto say that people often think the back seat can’t recline because there is a wall behind it, but he claimed it actually does.

He also said many worry about hearing the toilet flush but he came up with a solution, saying ‘ever heard of earplugs and noise-cancelling headphones.’

Meanwhile for those who are concerned about feeling ‘wedged in’, John said: ‘I enjoy being away from the traffic, so that’s fine by me.’

The seat position may not work for everyone but John revealed he is happy with that because he doesn’t want the location to be ‘in hot demand.’

It comes after another travel expert revealed some of her favourite plane hacks for passengers tackling long-haul flights.

Lindsay Silberman, who splits her time between New York and Florida, took to TikTok to divulge her top tips for those on the move.

She recommended keeping a ‘bag within a bag’ for necessities as well as championing compression socks, electrolyte packets, face and lips masks and noise-cancelling headphones.

The content creator, who has visited 63 countries, was quickly inundated with praise from other social media users.

In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 5.2 million times, Lindsay quickly launched into her list of top tips.

Demonstrating with her own luggage, she began: ‘I like to call this the bag within a bag.

‘I pack a duffel as my personal item and inside I keep a pouch with everything I need easily accessible so you don’t have to keep digging back into your bag anytime you need something.’

Next, she continued: ‘If you’re doing a long-haul flight and you’re not using compression socks, you’re doing it wrong. Personally I’m just not into the cankle aesthetic and that’s why I love compression socks.’

The keen traveller then shared yet another hack as she poured electrolyte powder into her water bottle.

But Lindsay did not stop there with her insights as she then whipped out her face and lip masks.

The content creator said she carries out her beauty routine – which also includes a lip mask – even in economy, adding that she doesn’t care about what other passengers might think.
