Stricken mother plunged into ‘every parent’s nightmare’ after leaving adorable toddler, 2, sitting on curb while she got other child out of car
A Maryland mom has been left in anguish after her two year old son was hit and killed by a car after he ran out into the road.
Cody Aguilar Gomez lost his life on Tuesday in a ‘horrific and tragic accident’, police in Annapolis said.
The youngster’s mom Karla Gomez had set him on the curb momentarily while she got her other child out of the car when the toddler made a break for the road.
Cody was struck by the vehicle just before 4pm and pronounced dead at the scene.
‘My heart is heavy because the reality is it’s every parent’s worst nightmare that’s come true for the Gomez family,’ Annapolis Police Chief Ed Jackson said.

‘I can’t imagine the pain that they’re going through now. Most of us can’t imagine as we go throughout our day that we would lose our two-year-old child.’
He added that the driver of the car was not aware he had hit anyone at first but got in touch with the cops after learning of the incident.
After consulting with the the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, police said their was no criminal intent from the driver.
‘We all are deeply saddened at this most horrific accident,’ Jackson added. ‘All of our hearts ache and grieve with the family.’
In a statement, Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley expressed his sadness over the death of ‘this bright, young light’ and offered his condolences to the Gomez family.
He also praised the motorist for coming forward and ‘doing the right thing.’

In a statement on a GoFundMe for Cody’s funeral expenses, the family paid tribute to the ‘little angel’.
Flowers at teddy bears have been left in memory of Cody, with locals saying the community has been left ‘devastated’ by the loss.
‘We are all heartbroken,’ one resident told CBS while struggling to keep back tears.
