2Day FM breakfast line-up announced: Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan

Southern Cross Austereo has announced its latest line-up for Sydney’s 2Day FM breakfast show.

The new format, known as The Morning Crew, will be hosted by Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan.

Dave and Ed also front the Hit Network’s drive show, and Erin is being drafted in from Nine radio, where she is known for her sports coverage.

The 2Day FM Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin will replace Music For Breakfast, the music-only fronted by Jamie Angel since August 2019.

SCA’s chief content officer Dave Cameron said he felt ‘lucky’ to bring the trio together for ‘a brilliantly hilarious and established show sitting in our fold that Sydney already knows and loves and is ready to hit the ground running in 2021.’

‘Hughesy had the number one drive show in Sydney for many years and collectively the crew are all trusted, strong performers in our target market,’ Mr Cameron added.

Hit Network boss Gemma Fordham said: ‘We will continue to build on a roster of regular guests to bring the 2Day FM Morning Crew to life and we know Sydney will be excited by this show in 2021 – a genuinely funny show to start the day, alongside our emotive “feel great” music format.’

Hughesy said his inbox was ‘already full’ with messages from real estate agents suggesting properties across the city after his promotion from drive to breakfast.

‘Look, I can’t buy all of them but I’ll have a crack!’ said the comedian, who will be relocating from Melbourne to Sydney for the new role.

‘Until then I will be staying in Kyle Sandilands’ pool house. In all seriousness, I have a ball working with Ed and I’m super pumped to be working with Erin,’ he added.

‘This is going to be a blast. From 10am every day you will find me at the Bondi outdoor gym busting shirtless workouts until my manboobs get rock hard!’

Meanwhile, it was also announced on Monday that Hughesy’s former co-host Kate Langbroek would be returning to the Australian Radio Network.

From January, she will be hosting KIIS FM Melbourne’s 3pm Pick-Up, replacing departing presenter Rebecca Judd.

Rebecca, who is the wife of AFL great Chris Judd, had hosted the daily radio show since 2017 alongside Katie ‘Monty’ Dimond and Yumi Stynes.

An ARN spokesperson said that Rebecca was leaving the show because she wanted to ‘take a break from media in the new year’.

The new line-up marks a return to ARN for Kate, who previously hosted KIIS FM’s Hughesy and Kate drive show from 2015 to 2017.

She took a break from the spotlight last year after moving to Italy with her family, but will return to Melbourne in January.

‘After our family adventures in Italy, I’m looking forward to returning to magnificent Australia – and ARN – and getting to speak my native language: radio,’ Kate said.
