AFL star Dane Swan’s South Melbourne pub The Albion shuts down after Covid-19 scare


Dane Swan has been forced to temporarily shut the doors on his South Melbourne pub, The Albion, after a staffer tested positive for Covid-19.

A statement shared to the venue’s Instagram account on Saturday read: ‘Due to a staff member testing postiive to Covid-19 we are unable to open our venue tonight Saturday 27/11/2021. 

‘All staff and management have to be tested and isolate until they receive a negative result,’ it continued.

‘We are devastated and would love to open tonight however public health and the safety of our staff and patrons is the most important thing to us’.

Dane has had a hard month, having injured himself last weekend in Sydney, suffering a horrific hand gash.  

On Tuesday, he recalled the shocking incident on his podcast Hump Day with Swanny and Friends.

The 37-year-old explained that he simply ‘fell over’ on a night out in the harbour city ‘well after midnight’. 

On Instagram, he shared a photo of the bloody wound with the caption, ‘Sydney 1 Dane 0,’ before adding ‘a trip away with me is never boring though’.

Earlier this year, the Collingwood superstar urged the general public to get vaccinated.

He got the jab and shared a post urging his almost 250,000 followers to do the same.

‘Yep I just got vaccinated, why?’ he wrote. ‘Cause I hate being stuck behind my front door being treated like a prisoner in the state I live in.’

He then claimed that mass vaccination is the only way that lockdown will end and society will return to normal.
