Elevated to the spotlight: Ariarne Titmus’ father Steve has been named as the new co-anchor for the 7NEWS Gold Coast team

In an interview with Sunrise, Titmus said he was ‘very excited’ to have been offered the position.

‘What better place to work and to read the news than here on the Gold Coast?’ he commented.

‘It’s no secret that you get two types of people who live in Australia – those who live on the Gold Coast and those who want to live on the Gold Coast.’

Titmus has worked for Channel Seven for more than two decades as a reporter in both Adelaide and Tasmania.

He began presenting news bulletins on the Gold Coast seven years ago when he moved his family to Queensland so Ariarne could further her swimming career.

Ariarne went on to win two gold medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the 200 metre and 400 metre freestyle.

Director of 7NEWS Brisbane and Gold Coast, Neil Warren said Steve’s new appointment came because his ‘news reading ability has been on the radar for a while now’.

‘What you see is what you get with Steve. Enthusiasm, he’s driven, just like Ariarne, a terrific and very talented person,’ Warren continued.

‘He will make a great team with Amanda, who is forging a path as one of the best known and respected news presenters on the Gold Coast.’

Warren states that Steve’s promotion to regular news presenter was set to come into effect once Seven’s coverage of the Tokyo Olympics ended.
