‘I thought fame would bring me happiness’: Ashley James claims becoming a celebrity dented her finances, self-confidence, body confidence and relationships
Ashley James has joined forced with Roxie Nafousi for a new podcast on ‘The Moments That Made Me’.
And she admitted that while she believed finding fame would be the key to her happiness, in actual fact, it brought her a lot of misery,
Ashley, 32, first burst onto screens in 2012 when she joined the cast of reality TV phenomenon, Made In Chelsea.

She said: ‘It was something that I thought would be such a life changer, in that it would bring me everything I’d ever hoped for in terms of positivity and money and fame and all the things that I thought would make me happy.’
With high hopes that her new career in TV would bring her happiness, Ashley said: ‘it definitely made me realise that a lot of the things that we think will make us happy definitely don’t, and I suppose it was the beginning of my journey to self-love’
Ashley added: ‘I guess it was like this glamourous world that I was entering into and it was actually the beginning of one of the hardest times of my life in terms of finances, self-confidence, body dysmorphia, relationships stress, just everything.’
But the mother-to-be said she learned a lot from her time on reality TV.
She said: ‘Being famous doesn’t always equal wealth, and wealth certainly doesn’t always equal happiness.’
Having spent six years living the life of a single lady in London, Ashley is now in a relationship with boyfriend Tommy, and the pair have a baby on the way.

She said: ‘quite quickly I entered into a relationship, but one that I felt was quite healthy for the first time.’
Talking about having a lifestyle previously where she was fiercely independent, and enjoying spending her single life surrounded by good friends.
Ashley said: ‘it really made me realise that I’d built my whole existence on being single, being the single person. It was hard to get my head around that change.’
Touching on how things are now, Ashley’s conversation with Roxie closes on a huge positive.
She said: ‘Now we’re in this amazingly strong place and have a baby on the way. I feel like life has 360-ed from this time last year.’
