Barnaby Joyce repeatedly calls Sunrise star Natalie Barr ‘Fran’

The Project hosts lose it laughing as Barnaby Joyce repeatedly calls Sunrise host Natalie Barr ‘Fran’

On Monday’s episode of The Project, the show’s hosts were left laughing uproariously after viewing footage of Barnaby Joyce making an amusing error.

In an interview with Sunrise, the deputy prime minister of Australia repeatedly called breakfast show host Natalie Barr by the name ‘Fran’.

Joyce was doing the round of interviews to discuss the National Party’s decision to support a 2050 net zero carbon emissions target to tackle climate change

‘Well, Fran, as I said, it’s unambiguous that they left Australia in a better position,’ he said, as Natalie shot him a curious look.

He continued: ‘Fran, you don’t litigate it on television, but it’s fair to say, at the start – I’m calling you Fran – that was just the interview I did. Nat, sorry about that’.

Despite correcting himself, only moments later Joyce once again said in response to a question: ‘Well, honestly Fran.’

The Project’s Waleed Aly, Carrie Bickmore and Peter Helliar all helplessly burst into laughter after viewing the clip.

‘He obviously has done too many interviews, poor old Barnaby,’ co-host Steve Price quipped, laughing.

‘I hope he is more across net zero than he is the interview,’ Helliar chimed in as his co-stars giggled.

It comes as, after a week of internal meetings and debate, Mr Joyce revealed the junior Coalition party now backs the zero target and declared: ‘I am 100 per cent on board with the goal of net zero by 2050.’

The move harmonises Labor and Coalition climate change policy, ending a decade of the so-called ‘climate wars’ in politics.

It also marks a major shift for the Deputy Prime Minister who has until now opposed climate change action by either questioning the existence of global warming or insisting that Australia can make no difference.
