Benji and Zoe Marshall walk through Sydney Airport following a family holiday in the Whitsundays

Benji and Zoe Marshall arrived at Sydney Airport on Thursday after returning from a family holiday on Daydream Island in the Whitsundays.

The 36-year-old recently retired rugby league footballer and his wife of eight years were accompanied by their two young children, son Fox, four, and daughter Ever, four months.

A smiling Fox happily threw up a shaka hand sign as he walked between his mum and dad.

Zoe, 37, pulled a suitcase alongside her as she navigated the airport, with Ever strapped to the front of her chest in a baby carrier.

Meanwhile, Benji pushed a trolley loaded up with their luggage, while also pulling another suitcase behind him.

The family appeared to have stopped to do some shopping along the way, with a bag from Queensland boutique Mott & Mulberry sitting on top of their suitcases.

After announcing his retirement from rugby league earlier this month, Benji paid homage to his former team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, by wearing a black face mask with the bunny logo on the front in white.

Benji seemed determined to keep a low profile, keeping a black baseball cap pulled low on his face as they walked through the busy airport.

He addressed his departure from the game in an emotional post on Instagram just a day later.

‘After 19 years of playing in the NRL it is now my time to hang up the boots. It has been one hell of a ride!!’ he began.

‘A lot of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am feeling very grateful and privileged that I got to call playing footy my job for over half my life so far.’

‘You sacrificed so much for me to live my dream and I will be eternally grateful. You are the real MVP.’

He said he was leaving the game ‘a better person’ after a career filled with plenty of ups and downs.

‘I will leave the game as a man who I believe has become a better person from the lessons I learnt playing rugby league,’ he added.

‘My career wasn’t always amazing and wonderful – there were down moments (many of them). Too many to share. But what I am most proud of is how I had the strength and courage to keep bouncing back… I kept believing in myself.’
