Married At First Sight fans compared Brett Helling to cricketing great Merv Hughes on Tuesday night after he sported a terry towelling bucket hat. 

The Melbourne-based electrician’s choice of headgear also set the Twitterverse ablaze, with many fans divided over the Ansett Australia Test Series number. 

‘Not the bucket hat,’ one viewer wrote alongside a skull emoji.

‘If I had just met Brett and he was wearing that hat, rest assured, I’d still write leave,’ a second commented.

However, a third fan clearly liked what they saw – and they weren’t alone. 

‘Brett’s terry towelling is world class,’ they commented.  

‘All other feedback aside, this is a solid throwback hat!’ added Nova 96.9 newsreader Matt de Groot.
