‘I am a sucker for punishment’: Brooke Boney reveals the WORST thing about working for Channel Nine’s Today show

Today show entertainment reporter Brooke Boney has revealed the less-than-glamorous downside of her plum TV gig.

Speaking to MediaWeek on Monday, the 34-year-old admitted that, despite having previously worked in breakfast radio, she still struggles to wake up at early for Today’s call-time.

‘I am a sucker for punishment. I don’t know how I ended up being someone who does all these breakfast shows when I am naturally a night owl who loves my sleep-ins,’ she said.

Brooke said that she’s managed to deal with the unpleasant morning alarm by going to bed at the same time every night.

‘It is not easy and it is not fun setting your alarm for that time but you just do it,’ she said, admitting that the first ten minutes of her days ‘absolutely suck’.

Once she arrives on-set, however, Brooke said she’s able to snap into her peppy TV persona immediately.

In May, Brooke told Mamamia that her early work ours had taken a toll on her physical and mental health in 2020, and that she was now trying to live a more balanced lifestyle.

‘The year before I was eating terribly, and I wasn’t looking after myself properly and I actually put on a lot of weight,’ Brooke admitted.

‘I just started eating really healthy and just getting into heaps of veggies and not drinking as much,’ she said.

Brooke also said she’s getting more sleep and embracing a more active lifestyle.

‘It’s not about what size or what shape you are – it’s all about feeling good in your body,’ she said.

Brooke joined Today in January 2019, replacing outgoing entertainment guru Richard Wilkins in the role.

She was the first Indigenous woman to join a morning show on a commercial network.

At the time, Brooke told 9Honey that she is proud to represent diversity within the television media industry.

‘For young Aboriginal people, or people from the country, or people from really working class families to be able to see themselves reflected as part of our TV landscape, I think it’s a really special thing,’ she said.
