Celine Dion is the focus of new biopic called Aline examining the Canadian singing sensation’s life

Meet Aline! Celine Dion’s unauthorized biopic uses a different name while recreating Canadian singer’s epic rise to fame in new trailer

In the tradition of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, she’s getting her very own biopic… even though it’s not using her actual name.

Nevertheless, a trailer for a film based on Celine Dion‘s life is getting new traction, since the movie, titled Aline, will be part of the upcoming out-of-competition lineup at this summer‘s delayed Cannes Film Festival.

The film follows the rise of a Canadian singing sensation named Aline Dieu, played by French actress Valerie Lemercier — who does bear an undeniable resemblance to the inimitable Dion.

Sing it: A trailer for a film based on Celine Dion‘s life is getting new traction, since the movie, titled Aline, will be part of this summer‘s delayed Cannes Film Festival

The trailer for the film, which is also directed by Lemercier, opens on the singer’s humble beginnings, before she is discovered by a record label.

Anyone who hears her demo tape cannot deny her heaven-sent voice, but there are roadblocks — Aline’s somewhat awkward gait, as well as dental problems.

Soon, however, she is taken under the wing of her much older manager, which follows perfectly in line with Celine‘s real life — she eventually fell in love with and married her manager Rene Angélil, 26 years her senior, who passed away in 2016.

Curiously, Aline uses some of the songs from Dion‘s unparalleled catalog, like Let’s Talk About Love, and the trailer even goes so far as to say that the film is based on Celine‘s life in one title card.

However, her actual name is not mentioned in the film itself, instead preferring to use the foil of Aline Dieu instead.

Previously, Aline was to be titled The Power Of Love, based on another one of Celine’s hit songs, and was said to have received the stamp of approval from the diva herself back in 2019.

Aline will premiere in Cannes in July, followed by a release throughout Europe this fall.

Additionally, an upcoming English-language film about Celine is currently in the works.

Directed by Quebec director Marc-Andre Lavoie, the film will be called Celine Before Celine, and it’s currently in pre-production.
