Chrissy Teigen gave up drinking alcohol because she was tired of ‘making an a**’ of herself.

The model, 35, revealed earlier this week that she is ‘four weeks sober’ and has now detailed the reasons behind her decision to quit booze, explaining she became ‘tired of day drinking and being unable to sleep.

The Cravings entrepreneur said Holly Whitaker’s self-help book, Quit Like A Woman: The Radical Choice To Not Drink In A Culture Obsessed With Alcohol, impacted her choice after being given it by a ‘doctor friend’.

Taking to Instagram Stories on Wednesday, she explained: ‘One month ago, on my birthday, I got this book from my doctor and friend.

‘I was done with making an a** of myself in front of people (I’m still embarrassed), tired of day drinking and feeling like s**t by 6, not being able to sleep.’

Chrissy, who celebrated her birthday on November 30, urged her social media followers to read the book, even if they aren’t planning to follow suit and ditch alcohol.

She added: ‘I have been sober ever since and even if you can’t see yourself doing it or just plain don’t want to, it is still an incredible read.’

Chrissy – who has children Luna, four, and Miles, two, with musician husband John Legend, 42, – revealed her sobriety milestone to a fan earlier this week.

She shared a video on social media on Tuesday dancing around in a bathing suit while vacationing with her family in St Barts.

A fan marveled at her level of energy and said, ‘I need whatever drugs you’re on!!,’ to which the author responded, ‘4 weeks sober,’ with prayer hand emojis and hearts.

Briefly mentioning her sobriety in a post on December 25, she said: ‘Trying to figure out if my love of face crystals is a phase of sobriety or a lifestyle.’

Her decision to embark on a sober lifestyle comes just three months after she and John tragically lost their baby son Jack, for which she has been seeking grief counselling.

Chrissy has been open about her relationship with alcohol in the past. In a 2017 Interview with Cosmopolitan, she said: ‘I was, point blank, just drinking too much.

‘I got used to being in hair and make-up and having a glass of wine. Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show… And then a bunch at the awards show.’

She continued: ‘And then I felt bad for making an a** of myself to people that I really respected.

‘And that feeling, there’s just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for John, for anybody.’

In 2018 she spoke to Women’s Health Magazine and said that postpartum depression after having Luna also caused her to drink to cope with the pain before she was prescribed an antidepressant.

In February 2019 after overindulging at the Oscars, Chrissy tweeted in the early hours of the morning: ‘Oh my god I feel like absolute s**t. I hereby go sober for at least the week. Booze is poison.’

A history of alcohol abuse in her family, she said having ‘just ‘one drink’ was hard for her: ‘I don’t know how to go to an awards show and not drink.’

Chrissy and John are currently preparing to ring in 2021 on a yacht in St. Barts, along with their friends Mike Rosenthal and Jen Atkin.
