Cody Simpson announces that he’s going to make his Instagram page more personal after getting caught up in ‘commercial concern’

Fans can expect to see some changes coming to Cody Simpson’s Instagram page.

In a post on Instagram on Wednesday, the 23-year-old singer and Olympic swimming hopeful announced he wanted to make his account more personal.

He also acknowledged that he’d been too worried in the past about posts that would bring in money and generate ‘likes’.

‘Going to start sharing more things that actually interest me regardless of commercial concern, and less of what I’m told people want to see,’ he wrote.

‘Do you agree that social media has become as gentrified and as sanitised as our current society?’

Cody’s Instagram page is currently filled with professional photos of the Golden Thing singer, many of which show him shirtless.

There’s also a smattering of sponsored posts, with one post in October advertising the latest Bulgari aftershave.

But his posts in recent weeks have been decidedly more personal, with Cody revealing earlier this month that he’d qualified for the Olympic trials in swimming.  

‘I’d love to share this personal milestone and let you in on my current journey as an athlete that I’ve kept relatively low key until now,’ he wrote on December 13.

‘Growing up competing, and then inevitably having to cut my career short as 13 year old Australian champion when I was given an opportunity in music that I couldn’t refuse…  

‘Now almost exactly 10 years later, here I am once more. For years I had been fuelled by the silent fire in my stomach of returning to the sport of swimming, with the idea that 2020 would be the year I’d try training again.’ 

He added: ‘After only 5 months back in the water with my incredible coach @hawkebr, I was able to take out a win and secure a spot at next year’s Australian Olympic trials in the 100 fly.’
