Cynthia Bailey reveals why she’s ‘happy but also sad’ with her decision to leave RHOA

Earlier this week, Cynthia Bailey dropped the bombshell and announced she was leaving The Real Housewives Of Atlanta.

And now the fan favorite is sharing her mixed feeling and emotions behind her decision to walk away from the reality series after 11 seasons of the show’s 13 season run.

‘It’s been an incredible journey and I have to be honest you guys, I’m happy but I’m also sad at the same time,’ she confessed during an interview on E! News’ Daily Pop on Friday, October 1.

‘It’s almost like, “What in the world, how did I do this for 11 years?”‘

Her take: Cynthia Bailey, 54, opened up and shared more details about why she decided to leave The Real Housewives Of Atlanta after 11 season

Bailey, 54, went on to share that she plans on taking some time to look back at her time on RHOA, perhaps as a way to have some form of closure, and to move forward with all that she learned from the experience.

‘When I look back, even looking at the intro, I want to go back and watch all the seasons with me on it. Because when you live it, when you’re a part of it, it’s actually [a] very difficult show to watch sometimes,’ she explained.

‘It’s a hard show to do. I feel like I did it, I did it my way and I made it out alive, with a brand and a whole husband.’

Mixed emotions: Bailey said she took a lot of time contemplating whether to leave RHOA and that she knew 'I didn't want to do it forever'; she is pictured in season three in 2011

It turns out this wasn’t a rash decision; Bailey had been mulling with the idea of leaving the show for quite a while

‘It was time, it was honestly time. I had been thinking about it for a while — just the whole transition,’ she revealed, before adding, ‘I knew it wasn’t going to last forever. I knew I didn’t want to do it forever.’

Bailey went on to confess that the unexpected extra personal time during the COVID-19 hiatus gave her the space to think more about a potential exit from the series, and then, as time went on she got ‘really used to not going back’ to the show.

At one point, while contemplating her options, she came close to accepting an offer to appear on the upcoming season 14 of RHOA as a “friend”, instead of leaving the series altogether.

‘Ironically, I actually introduced the “friend” contract on the show, but that’s neither here nor there,” she said. “And I thought, ‘You know what? That may be a perfect way for me to transition. I don’t have to commit completely fully to being a Housewife, and I can be a friend and kind of phase myself off the show.’ And then I decided, you know what, cut the cord.’

The mother of one also answered any questions about how much of an influence her second husband, Los Angeles-based broadcaster Mike Hill, had with her decision to leave the show.

‘Listen, let me correct the streets. Mike has always been super supportive of me, for sure. At the end of the day, he wants me to do what is going to be best for me and what’s happy for me,’ she said.

‘The reality of the situation is, I’m tired. I want to do something else. There’s so many other things I can do.’

Before fully moving on from the Bravo family, Bailey will appear in the upcoming Real Housewives crossover vacation series alongside the likes of Luann de Lesseps, Melissa Gorga, Teresa Giudice, Kenya Moore, Kyle Richards and Ramona Singer.

Bailey and Hill will celebrate their first wedding anniversary on October 10.
