‘It’s pretty sad’: Darren McMullen reveals his heartbreak after being replaced as host of The Voice Australia

Darren McMullen has spoken about his disappointment after being dropped from the upcoming season of The Voice.

In an interview with New Idea on Tuesday, the 39-year-old former Voice host admitted he was ‘pretty sad’ to discover he’d lost his role on the singing show.

The long-running series recently moved from Channel Nine to Channel Seven, and among the changes was a whole new line-up.

Darren confessed he was especially upset about the fact that he wouldn’t have the chance to work with incoming coach Rita Ora.

‘It’s pretty sad. Especially when I heard the line-up, I mean, I was dying to work with Rita Ora for years when we did the show at Channel Nine,’ he told New Idea.

‘There were certainly rumours that she was going to do the show at some points, it just never happened.

‘And, obviously I did the season with Keith Urban, so it would’ve been great to work with him again, he’s such a sweet and lovely guy.’

It was announced in August last year that The Voice would be moving to Channel Seven, with Sonia Kruger acting as host.

The show ran for nine seasons on Channel Nine, with Darren and Renée Bargh co-hosting last year’s season.

In December, the new line-up of coaches was announced, with Rita, 30, Keith Urban and Jessica Mauboy all set to appear.

The only returning coach is Guy Sebastian, with previous coaches Delta Goodrem, Boy George and Kelly Rowland all dropped from the line-up.

While no air date has been announced as yet, filming on the upcoming season commenced in February.
