David Furnish reveals his father Jack has died aged 90

David Furnish has revealed his beloved father Jack has died aged 90.

The filmmaker husband of singer Elton John, 58, made the announcement on Instagram on Sunday, where he shared that Jack had passed away peacefully the previous night and posted an emotional tribute to him.

In the post David admitted Jack – who overcame the trauma of his family being ‘ripped apart’ by both World Wars-  was an ‘old fashioned conservative’ who viewed life through the limited lens he was given from a heavily disrupted upbringing.

‘He wrote: ‘He sought solace and comfort in the loving arms of my mother, and built a platform of solid and loving familial stability in which we could all flourish.

Alluding to some harder times, he added:’Like most conservatives, Dad feared what he didn’t know.

‘But he never ceased to amaze me with his capacity to learn and grow, as his sons expanded his horizons through our own life experiences. He was present at the birth of both of my sons and full of joy for Elton and me.’

David also shared photos of Jack with his beloved wife Gladys, who died in 2019, and with David and Elton’s sons, Zachary, nine, and Elijah, seven.

Thanking him for familial stability he added: ‘Dad is with Mum now. The place he always wanted to be most.

‘Thank-you for all that did for me Dad. You encouraged me to be independent and strong. To believe that I could achieve my goals in life through hard work and kindness. Lessons that I pass on to my own sons every day.’

David received many messages of support from his celebrity friends, including Liz Hurley, Bernie Taupin, Natasha Bedingfield, Jake Shears and Sharon Osbourne.

His doting husband Elton, 73, also liked the post to show his support.

Within an hour of him posting the tribute on Instagram, Elton also honoured the life of Des O’Conner who died on Saturday.

He said: ‘Des O Conner was a wonderfully kind and talented man. I always loved working with him as he was so much fun. He really brightened up the world. My condolences to his family and friends. #RIP#DesOConner

The tragic news comes little over a year since the death of David’s mother Gladys.

Announcing Gladys’ passing on social media, David wrote a touching tribute and shared a picture of his mother and father on their wedding day.

He wrote: ‘Today I lost my beautiful, angelic Mother. She passed away peacefully in the middle of the night, with me and my brothers by her side.

‘Mum radiated gentle kindness. She was utterly devoted to her family. We all richly benefitted from her patient wisdom and bountiful love.

‘I treasure this photo of Mum and Dad on their wedding day – bursting with joy and fresh-faced optimism over their union and the life they planned to build together.

‘They shared the greatest love I have ever known; A rock-solid foundation from which my brothers and I flourished.’
