Emma Raducanu joins fellow tennis stars at the Met Gala

It was game set and match on Monday evening as tennis ace Emma Raducanu joined contemporaries Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka at the Met Gala in New York City

The triumphant teen traded her Wimbledon whites for a rather more elegant monochrome outfit from Chanel, just days after making history by winning the US Open.

Arriving at a well-attended Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, Emma’s new-found celebrity status was well in evidence as the 18-year old posed for waiting photographers before making her way inside.

Hard to miss: Maria Sharapova also made her presence felt at the3 annual event on Monday

Emma won her first major tournament in Flushing Meadows, Queens, on Saturday, just nine-miles away from Monday’s exclusive event, where tickets were available for an astonishing £30,000.

The British star, who was sitting her A Levels little more than three months ago, also had pearl body jewellery to complement her outfit.

The Met Gala invitation was just the latest piece of recognition for her stunning on-court success.

The theme for the evening was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion and the event featured a heavy-hitting contingent of celebrity co-chairs: actor Timothée Chalamet, musician Billie, poet Amanda Gorman and tennis star Naomi Osaka.

Honorary chairs for the evening were designer Tom Ford, sponsor Instagram’s Adam Mosseri, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour, while the must-have accessory of the night was a Covid-19 vaccine – a clear mandate set out by the event organizers.

Raducanu has been hailed Sunday as the new queen of British sport – and perhaps the architect of one of the most unlikely sporting achievements of all time – by winning the U.S. Open as a qualifier.

Her 6-4, 6-3 victory over Leylah Fernandez, broadcast on free-to-air TV in Britain, was in a primetime slot on Saturday evening, allowing the nation to savor a superstar in the making.
