Fans go wild over The Kardashians branding the new show ‘perfect’

The Kardashians made its debut at midnight on Thursday, and fans were thrilled to see the family back on TV after wrapping up Keeping Up With The Kardashians last year.

Early social reaction to the series was hugely positive, with fans going wild over it’s return and many loving its storylines and its higher production values.

However US critics weren’t as impressed as the fans, with some reviews branding the first episode of the new series ‘boring’ and a ‘disappointment’.

Despite the fans being happy with the show, critics have slated it with the Hollywood reporter review saying the show was ‘plagued by an aggressive ennui’ and said that KUWTK fans might find it a ‘disappointment’.

It said: ‘The Kardashians are back, but it’s hard to drum up enthusiasm for people who don’t leave the spotlight long enough to be missed.

The Kardashians: A look at the reviews

Despite the fans being happy with the show, critics have been less than impressed:

Hollywood Reporter: They said the show was ‘plagued by an aggressive ennui’ and said that KUWTK fans might find it a ‘disappointment’.

They added that it was ‘hard to drum up enthusiasm’ for it, saying nothing ‘shocks, surprises or titillates’.

Yahoo! Entertainment: They  said that the show felt ‘rusty’ as the sisters had ‘run out of things they were willing to share’ with the public.

Entertainment Weekly: They gave a slightly more positive review, saying it was clever that the first episode covered more drama to do with her sex tape, in a mirror to the first ever series of KUWTK.

Radio Times in the UK: They gave a three star review, saying the production felt ‘slicker’ and had ‘wittier’ editing

‘The new show is plagued by an aggressive ennui. It’s not necessarily an interesting show to watch. For longtime fans of the Kardashians, or even the casual spectator, it might be a disappointment.

‘The family that is famous for being famous and for shamelessly sharing themselves has refined, toned and polished their brand to an uncanny degree. Nothing here shocks, surprises or titillates.’

Yahoo! Entertainment said that the show felt ‘rusty’ as the sisters had ‘run out of things they were willing to share’ with the public.

The review read: ‘Throughout the first two episodes of The Kardashians, there’s a detectable note of panic — sifting through unrelentingly public lives to find the element that will be sharable without embarrassing, personal without being too much.

‘The answer seems to be recounting the journey of the family’s own reputation, staging a heroine’s journey of the past decade-and-a-half of American culture so as to avoid breaking into something too real.’

However Entertainment Weekly gave a slightly more positive review, saying it was clever that the first episode covered more drama to do with her sex tape, in a mirror to the first ever series of KUWTK.

It said: ‘Once, that sex tape defined her. Now, Kim Kardashian is the medium and the message. Love her or hate her, she’s earned that new font.’

The Radio Times in the UK gave a three star review, saying the production felt ‘slicker’ and had ‘wittier’ editing.

The review read: ‘If you’re a fan of the Kardashians as people, you’re going to love this.

‘It’s not quite as unique stylistically as Keeping Up, but it’s a good, captivating, and easy watch – which is only going to get more fascinating as we delve into the behind the scenes of some of the biggest headlines of the past 12 months.’

Fans also noted the quality of the cinematography, which appeared to be a step up from the more traditional reality-style footage of KUWTK.

The premiere also included some dramatic scenes in which Kim learned that her son Saint had seen adds for her now-infamous sex tape online.

The image Saint saw included a photo of Kim’s infamous ‘cry face,’ which she displayed again in an emotional outburst.

One user tweeted,’ Kim crying face made me lol not gonna lie.’

Another person thought it was funny how the new series was again starting with talk of Kim’s sex tape.

‘Khloe saying it’s a good omen that they’re talking about the sex tape on episode 1 again has me dead,’ they joked
