Fans react to Lisa Wilkinson’s joke about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s potential baby name

‘Your time is over’: Lisa Wilkinson is blasted for her ‘disgusting’ joke about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s potential baby name on The Project

Some viewers of The Project didn’t appreciate host Lisa Wilkinson’s joke about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s unborn baby on Monday night.

The outspoken panellist, 61, said she didn’t expect Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s second child would be named after Harry’s uncle Prince Andrew – who has faced scrutiny over his ill-advised friendship with late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Several Twitter users said it was bizarre that Lisa would make light of such a serious subject.

Whoops: Some viewers of The Project didn’t appreciate host Lisa Wilkinson’s joke about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s unborn baby on Monday night

Speaking about the California-based royals’ pregnancy announcement on Sunday, Lisa joked: ‘What do you think the chances are of that kid being called Andrew?’

In response, outraged viewers flocked to Facebook to vent their anger.

‘Please get her [off] TV sooner rather than later,’ one commented, while another wrote: ‘Your time is over. Not nice or polite.’

One viewer said the joke was particularly distasteful given that Lisa had just interviewed alleged rape victim Brittany Higgins for the same program.

‘You owe her and all your viewers a public apology,’ one critic wrote.

Ms Higgins, a former Liberal staffer, has claimed she was raped by a colleague in Parliament House in 2019.

However, several viewers didn’t pay much attention to Lisa’s joke about Prince Andrew and instead praised her sensitive handling of the interview with Ms Higgins.

‘So well done @Lisa_Wilkinson compassionate and highly professional,’ one supporter wrote on Facebook.

‘You gave a lot of room for Brittany to have her dignity and show herself for the incredible person she is,’ they added.
