FBI raids NYPD Commissioner and police chief’s homes in corruption probe – after also targeting Eric Adams’ top aides

The FBI has raided the home of NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban as part of a probe into New York City corruption on Thursday.

Federal agents also raided the homes of NYPD chief Raul Pintos and two precinct commanders in Queens and Manhattan, sources told Pix 11. 

Caban’s phones were reportedly taken by officials, as were the electronic devices of two NYPD lieutenants who worked in the commissioner’s office and on his detail.

The FBI searched Caban’s house the same day as the homes of several top aides of mayor Eric Adams were targeted by federal officials; deputy NYC mayor Phil Banks and Sheena Wright were also raided as part of a separate probe.

Those raids unfolded in tandem at Wright’s Hamilton Heights townhouse in upper Manhattan and Banks’ Hollis, Queens property.

Banks’ brother, former MTA official and current lobbyist Terence Banks, was also targeted. 

Meanwhile another top Adams’ aide, Timothy Pearson, reportedly had his phones subpoenaed, according to the New York Post. 

Sources told Pix11 the raid on Caban’s home stemmed from a separate probe than the investigation into Adams’ campaign financing. 

It comes after the FBI took Mayor Adams’ cell phone and laptop and raided the home of his campaign treasurer, Brianna Suggs, last November amid an investigation into his 2021 campaign.

The searches were part of a probe by the Manhattan US attorney into whether Adams’ campaign had conspired to obtain illegal foreign donations via a kickback scheme involving the Turkish government.

Sources told the New York Post the latest searches are designed to try a ‘flip’ someone close the mayor. Adams has continuously denied any wrongdoing and has not been accused of anything.

In February, the two Bronx homes of top Adams confidante Winnie Greco were also raided as part of a probe by the Brooklyn US attorney. 

Greco, 61, is being probed by the city’s Department of Investigation over claims she improperly used her position in City Hall to get perks. 

She is currently on leave from her role at the mayor’s office as Director of Asian Affairs. 

In July, Adams and his campaign, along with City Hall, were issued grand jury subpoenas.

The subpoenas requested information about the mayor’s schedule, his overseas travel and potential connections to the Turkish government, according to a person with knowledge of the subpoenas. 

Wright was the former boss of United Way of New York City and was among Adams’ first appointments when he took office. 

She has now become the most senior Adams aide to have her home searched.

Wright is engaged to schools chancellor David Banks, who is Phil Banks’ brother. 

Banks is a former police officer who is close to the mayor. He was previously named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a police bribery scandal.
