Ghostbusters: Afterlife international trailer teases a supernatural crisis

The (literal) ghosts of the past come back to haunt the present in the new international trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, including the famous Terror Dogs, who appeared in the original movie.

The long-awaited sequel teases the return of a few familiar ghosts, with a new generation of ghost hunters trying to chase them down.

The trailer also teases a mysterious connection to the original Ghostbusters, one of whom is the grandfather of these kids who come across this spectral activity.

The trailer begins with a man driving an old truck, as we see he has one of the original ghost traps from the first Ghostbusters movie, which debuted in 1984.

The unseen man gets into an accident as his truck is sent careening into a cornfield.

The trailer continues with a car driving up to a desolate country home, with an ominous sign reading, ‘This is how it ends.’

Phoebe (McKenna Grace) asks her mother Callie (Carrie Coon) what kind of scientist her grandfather was, but Callie reveals, ‘Honestly I have no idea.’

The man from before is seen running into the house, holding up the blinking ghost trap as he removes the ghost and hides the trap beneath the floor… where it’s found by Phoebe, seemingly many years later.

Phoebe’s brother Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) is seen snooping around the barn, where he finds the original Ecto-1 vehicle.

Phoebe takes the trap into school where it’s examined by Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd), who says, ‘This thing is real?’

It seems that, over the years, the Ghostbusters may have morphed from an actual organization to merely an urban legend.

Grooberson explains that this town they live in, ‘which has no fault lines, is shaking on a daily basis.’

Trevor, meanwhile, finds a large mine of sorts and asks, ‘What is that?’ when a red spiritual beam flies out of it.

‘This isn’t a mine. It’s a gateway,’ Phoebe says, as Grooberson is at the grocery store and sees tiny Stay-Puft marshmallows come to life as miniature Marshmallow Men.

Thankfully, they are nowhere near the size of the massive Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from the original movie, though plenty more spirits start infiltrating the town.

Phoebe, her classmate Podcast (Logan Kim) and Trevor are then seen in the Ecto-1, as Podcast activates a chair that spins out of the car.

They chase down a slimer ghost and send a modified ghost trap that has been turned into a radio-controlled car.

Phoebe tells Trevor that they, ‘need to finish what our grandfather started,’ as the town streets start to crack under all this supernatural pressure.

The trailer winds down with a number of action-packed shots, including the return of one of the Terror Dogs from the original, who wreaks havoc in this sleepy town.
