A first look trailer for the upcoming season of Grantchester showed the unlikely crime-solving duo DI Geordie Keating and Reverend Sidney Chambers reuniting.

Season six looks to be just as dramatic as ever, as preview footage saw the reverend’s step-sister throwing a spanner in the works and causing chaos on the show.

Released on Friday, the clip opens with 36-year-old Tom Brittney’s character Sidney drinking a beer with his 56-year-old sidekick Robson Green’s character Geordie as they holiday with their families.

The Keatings and vicarage family are on a well-deserved summer break at Merries Holiday Camp – which soon turns to work for Will and Geordie when they discover the suspicious death of the camp’s owner.

As they relax at the holiday venue, their families excitedly ask the pair: ‘Is it a murder? Is it the wife?’.

With a typical swinging Sixties tune playing in the background, the teaser shows a glimpse of what’s to come for the crime-fighting team as they are seen roaming the village and barging through the front door of a house.

As they talk to Sidney’s sibling, she suspiciously tells them: ‘Enjoy rifling through a dead man’s belongings’.

The trailer comes after filming for the ITV drama was disrupted by the pandemic.

In a statement, Executive Producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd previously said of filming amid the pandemic: ‘In these difficult times we are delighted to be able to film another series of our beloved Grantchester.

‘The cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring the series to the screen and we know the audience are very excited to see what Will, Geordie and the Grantchester family have in store for them.’

The series is adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie and was developed for television by Daisy Coulam.

Grantchester’s fourth series saw the departure of lead actor James Norton, who played Reverend Sidney Chambers, with Tom taking over as the village’s new crime-solving vicar.

James departed in 2019, and Tom’s Reverend Davenport now leads the cast.

Grantchester season six is airing next week, while series seven is currently being filmed.

Grantchester is on ITV next Friday at 9pm.
