Grey’s Anatomy sneak peek shows Kate Walsh’s grand return as Addison Montgomery

A new sneak peek for Grey’s Anatomy shows Kate Walsh’s grand return as Dr. Addison Montgomery after 10 seasons away.

On earlier seasons Kate, 53, played one corner of a love triangle with Drs. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek ‘McDreamy’ Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).

Now with their love rivalry in the rearview Addison is seen in crisis mode during a surgery, in need of help and demanding: ‘Get me Meredith Grey.’

The sneak peek begins with her reentering Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle where the bulk of the program takes place.

Other staff members are thunderstruck to see her return with one of them even snapping a picture of her while staring mouth agape.

‘I’m Dr. Addison Montgomery,’ she announces tartly, ‘and you must be the group that’s been screwing up the program.’

Shortly thereafter she is seen in the midst of a transplant surgery – only to be interrupted with news of an emergency.

Apparently the hospital’s air conditioning is on the fritz, and although Addison insists she ‘can handle a little heat’ the problem is more complicated than that.

‘The HVAC system controls the air filtration system at the hospital,’ says attending general surgeon Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr).

Referring to the patient Addison is operating on he says: ‘You’ll need to close her as soon as possible to prevent infection.’

Addison refuses to stop operating as the patient has ‘been waiting months for this,’ so Richard pushes her to ‘find a way to double your speed.’

In order to do so Addison will need ‘a set of hands as experienced’ as hers in the required field – so she says: ‘Get me Meredith Grey.’

Introduced on the season one finale, Addison began her arc as Derek’s estranged wife who sweeps into town after he has already taken up with Meredith.

A sizzling love triangle ensues with Derek initially drifting back to Addison but eventually winding up with Meredith.

The situation is complicated by Addison’s romantic entanglements with Eric Dane’s character Dr. Mark ‘McSteamy’ Sloan.

Kate was a series regular on the second and third seasons, after which she left to be the lead on the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice.

Being on Private Practice meant Addison’s leaving Seattle and moving to Los Angeles, but Kate kept having guests shots on Grey’s Anatomy until season eight.

Meanwhile on Grey’s Anatomy after the love triangle is over Meredith and Derek get married – only for Derek to die tragically in season 11 from a car crash.

The show is currently season 18 and Addison’s comeback episode entitled Hotter Than Hell will hit the airwaves next Thursday.
