Holly Willoughby lands a guest role in Midsomer Murders

Holly Willoughby lands a guest role in Midsomer Murders and jokes her character should be killed off ‘quickly’ because she is ‘terrible at acting’

Holly Willoughy was offered a cameo role in Midsomer Murders during Thursday’s edition of This Morning.

The TV presenter, 40, was surprised by stars Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix during the show when they asked if she wanted to be a part of it, as they knew she was a huge fan of the ITV murder mystery series.

Her co-host Phillip Schofield mused that there was something she ‘didn’t know’ about the actor, 60, and his 35-year-old co-star’s visit, as they then said they wanted her to join the show.

Delighted: Holly Willoughby got a guest role in Midsomer Murders on Thursday’s This Morning as she joked her character should be killed off quickly because she is ‘terrible at acting’

Neil told Holly: ‘We’ve all had a big talk about who we want to appear on Midsomer, and we decided we want Holly Willoughby to appear in an episode of ‘Midsomer Murders’ very soon.

‘I’ve been speaking to people upstairs and they’ve been speaking to your people. Holly please, I am emboldened here to offer you a role in Midsomer Murders.’

Holly immediately shouted ‘yes’, and was overcome with emotions after receiving such exciting news.

She added: ‘I’ve seen every episode since it started way back when. Are you serious?I mean, you’re going to have to kill me off really quickly as I’m terrible at acting.’

Neil joked ‘that’s never held us back in Midsomer’, and teased that Holly will either be murdered or revealed as a killer herself – ‘or something’.

Although the duo couldn’t give away too many details about her upcoming role, they did promise she would have a substantial part in a future episode.

It seems Holly already has some ideas for how she could be killed off on the show – which first aired in 1997 – as she suggested: ‘Can I die by eating chocolate?

Because I saw an episode where somebody died by eating chocolate and I was like, “That’s the way to go.”‘

Nick said: ‘Yes, suggestions – if there’s a particular way that you want to go, we can do it.’

Midsomer Murders has been airing since 1997, Neil and Nick joined the show in 2011 after the departure of John Nettles as DCI Tom Barnaby.
