Hugh Jackman goes SHIRTLESS for FREEZING New Year’s Day ‘polar bear plunge’ in the Atlantic Ocean

Hugh Jackman tore off his sweater and ran shirtless into the ocean for a freezing ‘polar bear plunge’ on New Year’s Day.

The 52-year-old sex symbol could be heard whooping from the cold as more and more of his body was submerged in the frigid water.

Although it is summer in his native Australia the X-Men star and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness have been self-isolating stateside in the Hamptons.

Still a Hollywood heartthrob: Hugh Jackman tore off his sweater and ran shirtless into the ocean for a freezing ‘polar bear plunge’ on New Year’s Day

As he bobbed up and down in the water he cheerfully wished a happy new year to his nearly 30 million Instagram followers.

Just before taking the ‘polar bear plunge’ he had teased the exercise in an Instagram selfie video taken from the warm comfort of indoors.

‘Happy New Year. Just finished eating my toast. I guess not eating bread was not one of my New Year’s resolutions,’ he said with a laugh.

‘But it’s okay – if you bake it yourself, all bets are off, that’s my view. Anyway, Happy New Year! ‘Bout to jump into the ocean New Year’s Day.’

He dished: ‘Polar bear plunge. People do it all over the world. Deb and I actually do it everyday when we can. We first heard about it from Wim Hof.’

Wim Hof is a Dutchman whose exploits in extreme sports involve exposing himself to freezing weather including by swimming beneath ice.

Known as the Iceman, Wim has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and most of Mount Everest shirtless and wearing shorts.

Back in 2000 he swam 188.6 ft underneath ice, setting a record that was only beaten 13 years later by Danish freediver Stig Severinsen.

Hugh told his fans Wim is ‘crazy, like and it just makes you realize, just a little bit of crazy everyday is good. It’s good for the soul.’

The musical theater star, who drew acclaim for his performance in the film of Les MIserables, was meant to return to Broadway last year in a revival of The Music Man.

Although the coronavirus lockdowns shut down the New York theater scene, the marquee for his show still went up at the Winter Garden Theater in September.

He is co-starring with fellow Tony winner Sutton Foster in the production, which is now slated to open February 2022 with previews starting this coming December.
