On Monday night’s episode of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia, Paulini Curuenavuli became emotional as she recalled her 2017 bribery scandal. 

The 38-year-old singer was given a suspended jail sentence in 2017 for bribing a government official to unlawfully obtain a driver’s licence. 

Recounting the incident on the show, the former Australian Idol star swatted away tears, revealing she did not work for a year, and feared she would never work again, after getting a criminal record due to the incident.

‘I lost my licence and then got on my Ls. And I just didn’t want to wait, so I bought a licence.

‘I got a criminal record. I got a massive fine. I lost work, like, that whole year after,’ she said.   

Co-star Grant Denyer then asked her: ‘Did you think your career was over?’

Covering her face and becoming teary, Paulini answered: ‘One hundred percent. All of my gigs after [stage musical] Bodyguard – all cancelled.’   

In a piece to camera, the emotional star explained that she vowed to soldier on after the ordeal. 

Paulini said: ‘It’s hard to make a mistake for someone who’s in the public eye because people are watching.

Paulini was charged with bribing a public official to unlawfully obtain a driver’s licence. She pleaded guilty and was given a six-month suspended sentence in 2017.

The singer then parted ways with her management company of 15 years for ‘creative’ reasons and has engaged the services of booking agency Q Star Productions.
