Inside NBC’s new BRIDGERTON-inspired dating show

It’s Bridgerton meets The Bachelorette for NBC’s newest dating show, the first trailer for which was released on Monday.

In The Courtship, which premieres on Sunday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET, 16 men will compete to sweep one woman off her feet.

But they’ll be doing their best to woo her the old-fashioned way, with carriage rides, archery, ballroom dancing, and hand-written love notes in a setting straight out of Regency-era England.

‘Swiping is out… courting is in!’ reads a teaser for the upcoming show. ‘In this classic twist on modern dating, one woman is whisked away to a Regency-era world where gentlemen compete for her love.’

‘Housed in a castle on the countryside, set on a beautiful backdrop of rolling hills, the heroine and suitors will experience that with which dreams are made of.’

The heroine is Nicole Remy, a software engineer from Seattle, whose 16 suitors will attempt to win her hand during a ‘time-traveling quest for love.’

The time-traveling theme includes era-appropriate dress, and a trailer shows Nicole in beautiful ballgowns.

‘We’re in a fairytale, and I’m ready to fall in love,’ she says.

‘Modern dating is not working,’ she goes on, adding that she is looking for ‘more etiquette, and being proper, and chivalry.

The camera pans to a luxurious estate with butlers, maids, and musicians, and a scene shows Nicole dancing — to ballroom numbers, not pop or hip-hop.

The stars are also seen having a garden party, enjoying a carnival, playing lawn games, and riding horses.

There also appear to be jousting lessons, a picnic, archery, and an ancient Rome-themed lawn party.

The men are also all done up to the nines in period dress.

‘You’re going to be choosing the gentleman that you want to spend the rest of your life with,’ says host Rick Edwards.

At one point, Nicole — wearing a hat and gloves — is riding in a boat with two men when another boatful of men paddles up. They all jump in to get her attention.

But it’s not just Nicole they have to impress: She also has a court judging her suitors, and naturally, it’s made up of mostly her family.

Her father, Claude, her mother, Claire, her sister, Danie, and her best friend, Tessa, are also all eyeing the men.

‘I’m introducing them all to my parents right from the start,’ she says.

‘We’re here to help Nicole find men who value family,’ says her mother.

Though the show takes place in Europe, the star is from the US, as are many of her suitors — however, the men in the show come from all over the world.

The Courtship was first announced back in July, with a medieval invitation that included a link for contestants to apply.

It was originally named ‘Pride & Prejudice: An Experiment in Romance,’ though the name change was announced earlier this month.

While the trailer does not mention the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, it was clearly inspired by the show, which returns with its second season on March 25.

Bridgerton is set in Regency era England, which spanned from 1795 to 1837, and is based on Julia Quinn’s romance beloved novels.

The second season will follow Quinn’s second novel, which follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) quest for love.
