The way they were: They announced they were ending their marriage last week after four years of marriage and 16 years together. And days after the shock split was revealed, an insider revealed why Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet decided to call it quits; seen October 21, 2019 in LA

The insider said that the former lovebirds ‘were amazing for years, until they no longer were,’ noting that that the split did not happen ‘overnight.’

Adding: ‘A few years ago, Jason was struggling to find work. Now his career is booming. And he wants to keep working as much as he can.’

However, Lisa ‘has had no interest in joining’ Jason on every location’ because ‘she enjoys her life in LA,’ the source revealed.

With him on location for projects and Lisa in LA ‘it’s been difficult for them to be apart,’ which took a toll on their marriage.

The source added that ‘for some people, it [distance] might strengthen their marriage. For Lisa and Jason’s marriage, being apart was a disaster.’

The duo are keeping the peace and are ‘mature’ as they navigate the split with their two children: daughter Lola, 14, and Nakoa-Wolf, 13.

Jason and Lisa began dating in 2005, welcoming daughter Lola in 2007 and son Nakoa-Wolf in 2008; they wed in October 2017.

Lisa has daughter Zoe Kravitz, 33, with ex-husband Lenny Kravitz.

The source insisted ‘it’s not going to be some scandalous divorce where they trash talk each other. They are both very spiritual and believe in a higher power.’

‘May Love Prevail,’ they added, signing off as ‘J & L.’

Although the separation announcement seemingly came out of nowhere, weeks earlier Lisa had said she was learning to be ‘authentically me’ when she chatted with Marisa Tomei for Interview in December.

After the Spider-Man: No Way Home star asked Lisa ‘what’s calling’ her, she replied, ‘Definitely learning how to be authentically me, learning to be new, and following this invitation from the universe to step into this river of uncertainty.

‘We’ve eliminated all this extra noise, and now it’s time to grow our roots deeper into our own values.’
