Two weeks after releasing her new song, On My Way, Jennifer Lopez dropped the music video for the emotional ballad that’s part of the soundtrack for her upcoming romantic-comedy film, Marry Me.

Emotional: Jennifer Lopez released the music video for her new ballad, On My Way, on Thursday night

Off the top of the video, directed by Santiago Salviche, JLo slowly appears out of darkness decked out in a black sequin suit from Versace, according to People.

Looking relaxed and contemplative, JLo sits down on a chair and looks upwards, just as an orchestral big band appears in the backdrop and first piano notes begin playing.

As she kicks into the opening lines on the song, clips from Marry Me begin to play behind her.

‘Always knew you even when I didn’t know you, don’t make sense, but it do / I was on my way to you,’ she sings while images behind her flash between the orchestra, bright clips of the film and a colorful bright version of the Brooklyn Bridge.

By the time she goes into the second line of the first verse, JLo could be seen decked out in an Iris Van Harpen gown.

Pulling at the emotional heartstrings, Lopez can eventually be seen belting out lines with matching lyrics written out in cursive behind her.

Drums and percussion only first appear when the song builds up to the extended catchy chorus where Lopez belts out: ‘I was on my way to you,’ many times over. It’s during the section she strikes various emotional poses that switch between her two fashion ensembles.

That percussive build up also reveals the first bright images of the Wonder Wheel, a 150-foot-tall Ferris wheel at Brooklyn’s Coney Island, which appears behind the singer, dancer, and actress.

While the switch in backdrops continues, and the intensity on dynamics builds, the Jenny From The Block star pulls off her jacket to reveal a black plunging tank top underneath.

The switch between all the various backdrops picks up in frequency as the tune build momentum into the bridge of the song.

‘And every heartbreak was a yellow brick road / Pointing me straight, just taking me home / I was never lost, I was just passing through / On my way to you (On my way),’ she sings with the intensity and emotion reaching it own fever pitch.

Continuing with the same heightened dynamic, both vocally and musically, Lopez takes the song to the outro, when all the music drops out, leaving only the original piano notes to its end.

Two days earlier, Lopez explained how the ‘song means so much to me…in more ways than you will ever know, and that ‘it’s about faith and believing in every step of your journey.’

She performed On My Way live for the first time during her set at the Global Citizen Live concert in New York City on September 26, 2021, and again for the 2021 American Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 21.

In Marry Me, Lopez plays Kat Valdez, a singer who learns that her on-stage partner (Maluma) has been having an affair behind her back. She responds by marrying a stranger, Charlie Gilbert (Wilson), who was holding a ‘Marry Me’ sign by accident at her live concert.

The rom-com, which also stars John Bradley, Sarah Silverman, Chloe Coleman, Michelle Buteau, Stephen Wallem, and Jameela Jamil, among others, is slated to be released in the United States on February 11, 2022 by Universal Pictures.
