Jennifer Lopez talks about her success and why she doesn’t relate to the concept of reinvention in new video: ‘I’m not reinventing or trying to be something different’

She wowed the crowds around the world on Wednesday with her singing talents at the US presidential inauguration.

And on Friday, Jennifer Lopez took some time to reflect on her life and career in a video chat that served as the first edition of Coach Conversations on YouTube.

The multi-hyphenate entertainer, 51, sat down for a virtual chat with author and podcast host Jay Shetty to talk about the idea of purpose.

On Friday: Jennifer Lopez took some time to reflect on her life and career in a video chat that served as the first edition of Coach Conversations on YouTube

The pair touched upon many topics, from Jlo’s innumerable past successes and how she viewed herself while she was coming up in show business.

‘I remember when I was going through therapy at the beginning, you know, kind of in my late 30s and there was a lot of talk about loving yourself and I was like, “I love myself”,’ she reflected.

‘But obviously I was doing all these things in like my personal relationships that didn’t seem like I was loving myself, but I didn’t even understand the concept of it,’ the Out Of Sight actress added.

‘It took time and it’s a journey and it’s still a journey for me.’

At another point, the theme of reinvention came up.

‘People are always like, “Oh, she reinvents herself. It’s a reinvention.” I don’t like that word,’ Lopez stated.

‘I’m not reinventing or trying to be something different or trying to trick people into something new. It’s an evolving.’

It was a markedly different sentiment than another superstar diva, who has been referred to as the ‘mother of reinvention’.

Madonna, who just so happens to have previously dated Jennifer’s fiancé Alex Rodriguez, has prided herself in reinventing herself over and over again during her decades-long career, even naming her 2004 world tour the Re-invention Tour.

Instead, Jlo focused on another popular concept as one of the keys to her success: the law of attraction.

‘What you say and what you think, and I tell this to my kids all the time, becomes your reality,’ the In The Morning songstress reflected.

‘If you’re telling yourself “I’m gonna be this or I’m gonna be that” or you’re telling yourself “I’m a f**king loser,” then you’ll be a f**king loser. Whatever it is, you tell yourself that and it will manifest.

‘I really believe that we create our lives. Again, not just with our actions and the things we do, but the things we think and the self-talk that we give.’
