Australia’s Funniest Home Videos star Jo Beth Taylor reveals why her only child chooses not to live with her anymore

1990’s Australia’s Funniest Home Videos star Jo Beth Taylor is an empty-nester, but not necessarily by choice.

The 50-year-old TV icon told New Idea on Monday that her son Christian, 20, with whom she shares with tennis star ex Thomas Muster, has chosen to live with his dad.

Thomas is an Austrian native and has lived in the country with Christian ever since he opted to relocate eighteen months ago.

When asked how she was doing generally, Jo Beth couldn’t help but note that the one gaping hole in her life at 50 is the absence of her son.

‘They were having some fabulous bonding time, then COVID-19 struck,’ she said of Christian’s living situation with her ex-husband Thomas.

‘Christian decided to stay put, learn German and get a job – all amazing life experience. But I miss him dearly.’

Jo Beth admitted the situation would be far less tolerable if not for regular Facetime catch ups and ‘a daily flurry of texts.’

Elsewhere in the interview she revealed the real reason she abruptly quit her television career in 1997.

Jo Beth said she felt ‘burnt out’ because she was dealing with a stalker and a ‘devastating’ false rumour that she had filmed a sex tape.

The situation left her feeling as if she’d been ‘kicked in the stomach.’ She eventually went to live with a friend in San Diego, California.
