Joshua Bassett seemingly fires back at ex Olivia Rodrigo with somewhat subtle digs in his new songs

Joshua Bassett seemingly fires back at ex Olivia Rodrigo with subtle digs in new song Crisis: ‘It’s cool if you want me to play the bad guy’

Joshua Bassett is seemingly firing back at his ex-girlfriend Olivia Rodrigo.

The actor, 20, released a series of singles that took subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, digs at the Driver’s License singer, 18.

Some of the lyrics hint at Bassett’s frustration in wanting to tell his side of the story like in the track Crisis, where he sings: ‘If you get to tell your truth / Then so do I / And it’s cool if you want me to play the bad guy.’

In another song titled Secret he sings, ‘I really hope you had your fun / Good for you foolin’ everyone / You had me tricked for 16 months.’

Though many fans are theorizing the lyrics are about Rodrigo, Bassett has not publicly confirmed this and his ex has not released a statement in response to the new tracks.

Of course, one of Rodrigo’s biggest hits is titled Good 4 U.

Bassett released three singles in total on Thursday, presumably in anticipation for an upcoming album though nothing has been announced yet.

Half truths: In one line on his single Crisis, Bassett said 'If you get to tell your truth / Then so do / And it’s cool if you want me to play the bad guy (pictured with Rodrigo 2019)

However, if the star continues on the path he’s on, fans may get an album they believe is an answer to Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour.

Many fans thought Sour, for which the Traitor singer received seven Grammy nominations, contained many songs about Bassett and Rodrigo’s relationship including Driver’s License, Rodrigo’s hit single and breakup anthem.

While they didn’t confirm their romance during their relationship, the couple, who met on the set of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019, also never denied they were dating.

Even though Bassett has clearly been busy with making new music, he isn’t stopping there.

The Stuck in the Middle actor has a few upcoming projects including a role in Better Nate Than Ever, the story of a 13-year-old Midwestern kid who dreams of becoming a Broadway star.

Friends star Lisa Kudrow and Fosse/Verdon actor Norbert Leo Butz will also star in the film based on the book of the same name.
