Kyle Sandilands on how he built a $100M business empire and is now gunning for an Order of Australia

Kyle Sandilands has lifted the lid on his extraordinary business success, revealing how he turned his lucrative radio career into a glittering $100million empire.

The 50-year-old broadcaster, who reportedly earns $5million a year hosting KIIS FM’s Kyle And Jackie O Show, entered the business world in 2012 after he founded an investment company called King Kyle.

The company, which Sandilands says is now worth around $100million, has also recently expanded into content creation and music production.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia this week, Sandilands explained that his decision to invest in a business was actually inspired by his mother.

‘I didn’t want to put [my money] into share portfolios because I like to be in control. I saw my mum lose a lot of money when the financial market crash happened,’ Sandilands explained.

‘She lost nearly all her life savings, and I just thought, “Hmmm. I don’t know that area of business.”‘

While Sandilands admitted he’s no expert in all areas of his business, he insisted that ‘surrounding himself with knowledgeable people’ has always been the key to his business success.

‘I’m no expert in anything except for talking s**t. But I’m a very good listener as well, so I do listen to anyone that I employ to run different parts of the operation… and then I just monitor everything,’ he explained.

Perhaps the secret to King Kyle’s runaway success is the sheer variety of services it offers – from selling beverages such as H2Coco and Nueva Sangria, to producing the Amazon Prime hit Luxe Listings Sydney.

He is also a staunch believer of ‘quality over quantity’ when it comes to producing content for television, an ethos he says has paid off in spades.

‘We’re not interested in just doing everything and showing up at every event. I just want a small dance card and very good quality programs,’ he said.

‘I believe you’re only as good as your last program. I don’t want to make a dud, so I’d rather do less, better quality, better ratings projects.’

Sandilands’ taste for quality is also reflected in his personal property portfolio, which includes a house in LA, a newly renovated home in Port Douglas worth $1.3m, a 160-acre farm in the Southern Highlands and his fleet of seven luxury cars – including a Rolls-Royce Phantom, Bentley Mulsanne, F-Type Jaguar and S-class Mercedes.

Despite all his success, there’s one thing Sandilands is yet to achieve – an Order of Australia medal.

‘Yes, I’m dying for it to happen,’ he said when asked what he thought of recent rumours he’s set to receive the accolade soon.

‘I’d love it because this is the only opportunity I’d ever get one because normally I’m on the wrong side of the news. So this is the one time I’m on the good side.’

Sandilands was no doubt referring to his ‘Get Vaxxed Baby’ campaign, in which he encouraged listeners to roll up their sleeves for the Covid-19 jab.

And while no one could blame Sandilands for wanting to quit radio to focus on his lucrative business ventures, the shock jock says he won’t be hanging up the microphone any time soon.

‘No way! I’d be bored to death sitting in [the King Kyle] office all day with all those idiots,’ he joked.

Sandilands, who has worked in radio since the age of 16, said he loves gracing the airwaves every morning alongside co-star Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and that he’d be crazy to quit given that barely spends any time preparing for the show each day.

‘That show is a well-oiled machine and just runs without any effort,’ he said.

‘We’ve got good people in there as well, like our back-end team is excellent. And I like doing the show.’

While Sandilands may not be leaving ARN any time soon, he has never been afraid to air his grievances with members of his team on-air.

Just last week, Sandilands lashed out at KIIS FM’s Program Director for complaining about a segment in which a producer practised oral sex with a ham sandwich.

‘They’re always bloody tight-a*ses in the programming [department] because they have to balance [complaints],’ Sandilands said of the incident.

‘Every now and then we have an argy-bargy but it’s like sibling rivalry. It’s not anything that drags on,’ he said.

While Sandilands said he ‘usually wins’ these arguments, he is often prepared to listen to advice and tone down certain segments to avoid listener complaints.

‘I want to have a penis pageant on the air, they don’t want it. Sometimes you’ve got to be a bit democratic with these things, since they do own the radio station. So, it’s a little bit political sometimes.’

‘But 95 per cent of the time it would be a very good relationship,’ he said.

Sandilands also opened up about his split from ex-girlfriend Imogen Anthony.

When asked what he thought of Anthony’s recent appearance on Channel Seven reality show Big Brother VIP, Sandilands said he couldn’t be happier for her.

‘I was happy for her to do that because I knew that she’d always wanted to do that. So when I heard she was going to do that, I was like, “Oh, she’ll be thrilled”.

‘I wish the best for her and there’s no real malice there. And she’s soldiering on and seems quite happy, and I’m happy. I don’t have any issues with any past girlfriends.’
