Lily Allen claims she had to cancel her AstraZeneca vaccine due to allergy

Lily Allen, 35, claims she had to cancel her AstraZeneca vaccine due to a severe codeine allergy as she reveals she was eligible for jab early because she’s asthmatic

  • It’s likely that Lily is allergic to a substance found in codeine, rather than the drug itself
  • Polysorbate 80 is a commonly used chemical in medicines which helps their ingredients mix together
  • It is found in the AstraZeneca vaccine as well as many influenza jabs, painkillers and cancer medications
  • Pfizer’s vaccine, on the other hand, which uses entirely different technology and chemicals from the AZ jab, does not contain polysorbate 80
  • Newly-Brexited Britain has managed 46 doses per 100 people in the population, this compares to just 14 doses per 100 in Germany and 13 per 100 in France

Lily Allen claims she has had to cancel having her Covid vaccine at the last minute because she is allergic to one of the ingredients in it.

The Smile singer, 35, revealed that she was due to have the AstraZeneca jab but found out it wasn’t suitable for her after she called to book her appointment.

Lily, who suffers from asthma, was told she could book a vaccine because of her condition.

Claims: Asthmatic Lily Allen, 35, has claimed she has had to cancel her AstraZeneca vaccine due to a codeine allergy and will now have to wait for the Pfizer instead upon doctors orders

But she revealed she was unhappy when she was given more information about it this week.

She told fans on social media: ‘Quite sad. Was told I was eligible for vaccine (asthma) so called to book in for my AstraZeneca, went through some questions.

‘Am allergic to codeine so not allowed AstraZeneca and have to wait for a Pfizer to become available.’

Information: She explained that her allergy is extremely severe and also noted that she is eligible for the jab early because she is asthmatic

WHY CAN’T LILY ALLEN TAKE THE AZ JAB?

The singer has revealed that a severe allergic reaction to the painkiller codeine means she cannot have the British-made vaccine.

It’s likely that she is allergic to a substance found in codeine, rather than the drug itself.

Polysorbate 80 is a commonly used chemical in medicines which helps their ingredients mix together.

It is found in the AstraZeneca vaccine as well as many influenza jabs, painkillers and cancer medications.

A severe allergic reaction to the substance can lead to anaphylactic shock.

The deadly reaction causes a sudden drop in blood pressure, breathlessness and swelling of the face and tongue.

In the Government’s immunisation handbook, it says anyone ‘with a previous history of allergic reactions to the ingredients of vaccines should not receive it’.

Pfizer’s vaccine, on the other hand, which uses entirely different technology and chemicals from the AZ jab, does not contain polysorbate 80.

But there have still been a small number of people who have had allergic reactions to similar substances in that vaccine.

After one fan suggested: ‘You’re probably intolerant not allergic’, Lily confirmed: ‘I’m allergic, anaphylactic allergic.’

Lily had to isolate with her daughter in December after one of her daughter’s classmates was diagnosed with Covid.

Her husband, Stranger Things actor David Harbour, 45, also revealed at the start of March that he qualified to get the jab to ‘protect his loved ones’.

Lily who had a lot of opinions thrown at her following her tweet also admitted she was getting fed up with modern technology and the internet.

She said: ‘The internet sucks doesn’t it? I hope in 10 years time we’ll all be carrying A-Zs in our pockets or handbags again, not be arguing with anonymous strangers or bots and be less riddled with anxiety from comparing ourselves to everyone and everything.’

She added: ‘Also, democracy was good, I think ! there were less data hacks and bank scams, less deliveroo and more cooking. It literally takes all my time and all money.’

After one fans suggested she would find it hard to sell her sex toys online without the internet Lily said she would sell them ‘in a shop, I guess’.

When the fan then questioned: ‘So would you work in the shop or just stand out side doing demos ?’

Lily replied: ‘Excuse me while I laugh myself to absolute death you f***ing ledge !’
