Leigh-Anne Pinnock of the girl group Little Mix will be making her film debut in the upcoming romantic comedy Boxing Day.

The 29-year-old singer will be joining the I May Destroy You actor Aml Ameen, who’s making his directorial debut with the film, Deadline reports.

Although Pinnock has filmed numerous videos with Little Mix and has appeared on multiple reality shows, she has never played anyone other than herself on screen.

New role: Leigh-Anne Pinnock, of Little Mix fame, will appear in the upcoming romantic Christmas comedy Boxing Day with writer–director–star Aml Ameen, Deadline reports; seen in January

Ameen co-wrote the Christmas comedy with Bruce Purnelln, and it’s reportedly based on some of his own experiences.

He stars as the British author Melvin, who comes home to London for Christmas and introduces his family to his American fiancée Lisa, played by Aja Naomi King.

The couple’s relationship is put to the test by Melvin’s unusual British-Caribbean family, and Lisa learns more about her fiancé’s past life than her ever shared with her.

In addition to Pinnock and King, Marianne Jean-Baptiste also stars.

Pinnock’s time with Little Mix began in 2011, when the group, which also includes Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Jade Thirlwall, was formed on the eighth series of The X Factor, eventually becoming the first group to win the competition.

Despite the hodgepodge way in which the group was assembled, they’ve proved themselves to be one of the most successful girl groups ever by selling more than 60 million albums.

Pinnock, who’s Jamaican and Barbadian, was born in Buckinghamshire, near London.
