Lorraine Bayl has spoken candidly about the health complications that have forced her to retire from acting.

The Sullivans star, 84, told Stellar magazine this week, she’s suffered from several health issues over the past two years.

Lorraine was diagnosed with pneumonia in 2018, which led to a partially collapsed lung.

After recovering from pneumonia, she then discovered she had breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy.

She completed her cancer treatment but has spent the past few months isolating at her home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

‘I’ve spent the past two-and-a-half years going from one illness to another,’ she said.

Lorraine continued:’But I don’t complain because for the first 80-odd years of my life, I got through without any serious illness at all.’

‘You look at the little kids on television who are fighting cancer and all sorts of problems… They’re the ones my heart breaks for.’

Lorraine is best known for her role as matriarch Grace Sullivan in Nine’s drama The Sullivans from 1976 to 1979.

She also played the lead role of solicitor Jennifer Carson in television drama Carson’s Law from 1982 to 1984.

The actress also played the character of Faye Hudson in popular Channel Ten soap Neighbours.

She won three Silver Logies in 1978, 1979 and 1983 for Most Popular Actress in The Sullivans and Carson’s Law.
