Lorraine Kelly will be moved to tears as she hosts her first ever Christmas Day special on Friday, after receiving a sweet video message from her mum Anne.

The presenter, 61, admits she hasn’t seen her mum ‘for ages’ due to COVID-19 restrictions as she’s surprised with the message during the show.

Lorraine’s first ever Christmas special is set to be the ultimate festive treat with star guests including Kylie Minogue, Matt Lucas, Michael Ball and Chris Kamara.

During the episode, Lorraine is surprised with the moving message from her mum, leaving the broadcaster moved to tears.

She tells Dr Hilary Jones and fashion expert Mark Heyes: ‘I wish I could see them, it’s terrible isn’t it? I haven’t seen her for ages.

‘Everybody is the same though. Zoom calls galore today. We will see each other. It’s like we keep saying. We have to scale it down for this year but wow are we going to make up for it next year? My wee mum, that was so lovely.’

During the festive show, pop princess Kylie also says she can never predict what she’ll be doing over Christmas, but she always goes ‘decoration crazy…you’ve got to let yourself go crazy at Christmas time.’

The Australian hitmaker also reveals she’ll be spending Christmas in the UK with her boyfriend, GQ’s creative director Paul Solomons.’

She says: ‘Paul and I, Christmas tree, food, TV and movies. It’s going to be very emotional to be able to call back home and be able to celebrate with my family at a distance but celebrate nonetheless.

‘I’ll pour the wine. This Christmas of all Christmases, I think if you want to dress up, knock yourself out, you deserve it.’

Great British Bake Off host Matt also speaks to Lorraine about landing the job of presenter on the beloved Channel 4 show, and how bosses overcame the pandemic to still continue filming.

He says: ‘It is a dream job and again it was another bright spot for me, that I got to join this big bubble and eat lots of cakes, far too many cakes…it’s so much fun to do.

‘The bakers are lovely. They are the stars of the show. It was just great to make loads of new friends.’

Later in the show Lorraine chats to the singing duo Michael and Alfie, and the show even features an alternative version of the Queen’s annual Christmas message, delivered by RuPaul’s Drag Race star, The Vivienne.
