MAFS’ Jules Robinson details vile slurs she’s received

Married At First Sight Australia star Jules Robinson has detailed the vile trolling she has faced since finding fame on the show.

The businesswoman, 38, who found love with husband Cameron Merchant, 37, on the show, revealed when she was expecting their son Oliver, four months, trolls would attack her online with disgusting slurs.

She told new! magazine: ‘At the beginning it was body shaming but my worst was someone saying “I hope you have a painful miscarriage”‘, while she also insisted her blissful romance with her co-star is not always rosy.

Jules and Cameron met on season six of Nine’s controversial social experiment, which was filmed in late 2018 and aired in Australia in early 2019, before hitting screens in the UK earlier this year and garnering a huge fan base.

After falling in love, they got engaged during the finale and later married for real in a legally binding ceremony, selling the broadcast rights to A Current Affair.

In April 2020, the pair announced they were expecting their first child in an exclusive cover story with Stellar magazine. They welcomed Oliver on October 3.

Things have not been smooth sailing due to the fact Jules has been met with vile trolling and even dark words related to her unborn child.

Jules admitted that the timing of the slur was lucky as she was ‘having a good day’, but things could have been must worse.

She said: ‘Luckily when they said that I was having a good day but you don’t know what people are going through. Two days later I was having a bad pregnancy day and if it had happened then I wouldn’t have been ok.’

Speaking about the punishment of the trolls, she went on: ‘People are very strong behind their keyboards. In Australia, we have new laws that are coming in with what’s right and wrong with trolling…

‘I’ve been working on that progress and I’m happy to share my experiences. I’m all for freedom or speech, but that should not translate into freedom of hate and saying things to people just to hurt them…

‘For me, it’s not about people liking me. I’m very strong and resilient and of course sometimes it hurts.’

As one of the most loved-up couples in the experience, it’s easy to believe the duo have a smooth-sailing love yet she admitted they ‘annoy each other’ like any regular couple, particularly during the pandemic.

As well as discussing her life online, the couple also went into details about her former co-stars, including Ines Basic, who caused ructions during the experiment.

Cameron noted: ‘It’s funny talking to Ines now – she’s a different person! She’s a wonderful person.’

The show has helped the duo garner online success, as last week Jules became the first Married At First Sight contestant to reach 500k Instagram followers on Thursday – beating Bondi influencer Martha Kalifatidis in the process.

Despite sharing a string of sponsored content, Jules has racked up a massive 533k followers on her social media page.

Martha is not far behind with 492k followers, Elizabeth Sobinoff – who has appeared on the show twice – has 398k, while Cam also has an impressive 348k.

Since appearing on the reality TV franchise, Cam and Jules have shared a string of cringeworthy paid-for posts on their respective pages.

In October, Jules shared three sponsored posts in just 24 hours, in an effort to help out new mothers with the task of juggling their busy schedules.
