Mandy Moore says that playing a mother on This Is Us has helped prepare her for having children

She stars as the mother of three children on her hit prime time soap opera This Is Us.

And Mandy Moore revealed that playing the matriarch Rebecca Pearson may have helped prepare her for the experience of having her own child during an interview on Today.

The 36-year-old actress and singer revealed in September that she was expecting her first child with her husband Taylor Goldsmith, nearly two years after they tied the knot.

Extra help: Mandy Moore, 36, revealed she had picked up some key parenting pointers during her time on her hit NBC primetime soap This Is Us on a Today Show interview on Friday

In This Is Us, Mandy plays both young and old versions of her character, who is the biological mother of Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Kevin (Justin Hartley) and the adoptive mother of Randall (Sterling K Brown).

‘Playing a matriarch of a family for the last five years and getting to see children at various different chapters and stages, I feel like I’m as pseudo-prepared as I can be [sic],’ she told Hoda Kotb.

‘I’ve had babies and toddlers and adult children [on the show], so I’ve gotten a pretty good taste and lay of the land.’

But even if she feels more prepared than the average first-time parent, Mandy is still happy to get ‘unsolicited advice’ from parents.

‘I will welcome anything because I know nothing. I’m like a sponge — I wanna soak it all up.’

As her character isn’t pregnant on This Is Us, the current season has required camera angles that don’t reveal her baby bump, or clothing that can conceal it.

‘I’m sure you’ll see Rebecca carrying a lot of laundry baskets and oversized purses and God knows what for the next couple of months!’ she joked about filming.

‘I’ve also heard that they can go in and digitally change things, if need be, but I’m guessing it’ll be a lot … less full-body [shots].’

The Candy singer also spoke about her husband Taylor, who is a singer and guitarist for the rock band Dawes, and her hopes for keeping music in their future son’s life.

‘My husband is a musician, so the idea of being able to have music be this through line in [the baby’s] life is really exciting,’ she continued.

‘To be able to bring him on the road with us is an exciting prospect. And holidays — we’re at the beginning of the best season of the year, and I think about traditions and the way we’re gonna be a family together. It’s so exciting.’

Mandy and Taylor, 35, have been together since 2015, and they announced their engagement in September 2017, before marrying in November 2018.

During the interview, Hoda mentioned that Mandy was pregnant the last time they chatted, though she hadn’t revealed her good news yet.

According to the Saved! star, she was feeling terrible at the time due to her morning sickness.

‘I was so sick. I’m on the West Coast, so that entailed me getting ready at 4 in the morning. I remember that morning I was sitting on the ground in my bathroom because I was so nauseous,’ she admitted, though she added that things were much better now that she was in her third trimester.

The Walk To Remember actress has said she’s expecting her child in early 2021.
