Recently, Margaret spoke to E! News about filming the show’s brutal cleaning scenes including one in which her character has to clean a filthy squatter’s den.

She explained how the show’s set designers worked to make the scenes as realistic as possible.

‘It’s incredible,’ Qualley said. ‘The concoctions that they would use to make, because, like, it’s all fake.

She continued, ‘I’m doing the princess version of all this. It’s like ketchup and hot sauce and A-1 or whatever that’s like, plastered onto an oven in order to make it look like [dirt]. Everything is like clean dirt.’

While Margaret said that she was unperturbed by the mess, she went on to say that director Nzingha Stewart found the scenes difficult to bear.

‘The director of episodes three and four was really squeamish and had a challenging time…dealing with the set and the cockroaches,’ she said. ‘I don’t think she made it in the room for the cockroach scene.’

During an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, Andie talked about the difficulties of playing her character. She said, ‘It wasn’t easy because she was so mean and cruel and horrible to her daughter.

‘It was interesting that my daughter suggested me for the role and at first, I thought, ‘My god, does she see me like that?’ Of course, she doesn’t but it was a little intimidating!’

MacDowell shares Margaret, daughter Rainey, 31, and son Justin, 35, with her ex-husband Paul Qualley, whom she divorced in 1999.
