Married At First Sight’s Steph and Jonathan are ‘STILL married’ despite splitting two years ago as he’s ‘refusing to sign divorce papers’

Married At First Sight‘s Steph and Jonathan are reportedly still married after splitting two years ago.

The couple tied the knot in December 2018 specifically for their appearance on the fourth series of the Channel 4 show, but split just weeks later following a disastrous honeymoon.

Sources have now claimed to The Sun that Jonathan, 41, is ‘refusing to let go’ of their marriage and is said to be blocking a divorce, despite the fact that he and Steph, 30, are no longer a couple.

An insider told the publication: ‘It’s a nightmare for Steph, who just wants to move on. Jonathan is refusing to sign divorce papers so they’re still legally married.’

They added: ‘Steph and Jonathan were never really a couple – it was pretty obvious there was no connection between them from the second they got married, but they tried to give it a go and get on.

‘But at the end of the day, they had nothing in common and nobody knows why the experts matched them. Steph thought he was a nice bloke, but there was nothing there romantically.’

The source also suggested that Jonathan ‘can’t deal with the fact that it didn’t work out’.

MailOnline has contacted Channel 4 for comment.

Jonathan and Steph’s relationship and breakup were documented in the fourth series of Married At First Sight, which was broadcast in early 2019.

It was originally Jonathan who instigated the breakup, as he handed Steph annulment papers in an envelope for Christmas in 2018.

On camera, he later admitted that he regretted doing this – however, Steph was ready to move on by that point, and after consulting with the show’s relationship expert, the two agreed to begin divorce proceedings.

An insider has claimed that after filming had wrapped up, Jonathan had a change of heart, and has ‘clung on’ to the relationship.

They said: ‘Steph had to ask the production company to ask Jonathan to stop sending her these “creepy” cards – he’d always contact her on her birthday and Christmas, and she just wants to forget about the whole thing and move on.’

The source alleged that Steph believes she got ‘an unfair edit’ on the series, and is now ‘stuck in a marriage she regrets’.
