Comedian Mel Buttle reveals the REAL reason she decided join I’m A Celebrity – as she talks about her plan to beat this season’s bully

The Great Australian Bake Off presenter Mel Buttle has just been confirmed as a star for this season’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

And the 38-year-old comedian has revealed the surprising reason she decided to join the tough Channel 10 show.

Speaking to Brisbane Times on Sunday, Mel said: ‘I know it’s shocking – but I will be 40 soon. And I thought, what have I done with my precious little suburban life?’

She continued; ‘I’ve not really had anything very hard happen to me. So I thought: you know what? You need to do something like this before you turn 40.’

Mel went on to explain that the pandemic has meant stand-up work has dried-up for her and that she wanted to grab this opportunity with both hands.

Despite admitting to be scared of creepy crawlies and snakes, Mel said she had a strategy in play for fighting off this year’s camp ‘bully’.

‘I went to an all girls’ school so I’d use those skills,’ she began, not disclosing if her tactics were required once meeting the new cast.

‘Once that (annoying) person is gone, I’d go up to someone else and say, ”did you hear what they just said?” I’d try to slowly, one by one, build a little bi*ch army.’

Actress and singer Toni Pearon was also confirmed as entering the Australian ‘jungle’ this year on Sunday.

The series was recently filmed in Queensland, as the coronavirus pandemic halted filming plans for their usual location in South Africa.

It was revealed last month that a number of familiar faces will be entering the jungle after the cast list was leaked.

According to industry website TV Blackbox, former Dancing With The Stars hosts Grant Denyer and Amanda Keller are all set to enter the jungle.

Meanwhile, celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge will be replacing Pete Evans, who was dropped from the cast last month just hours before filming was set to commence.
