Melbourne Demons captain Max Gawn is penning a new book about his team’s historic 2021 premiership win and the struggles the club faced beforehand.

It will be titled Captain’s Diary and will be published by Hardie Grant Books.

‘I had nothing to do when I got back. I was just at home and have hardly left my house,’ the AFL superstar told the Herald Sun of his decision to compile the book.

‘The position I’m in, I take notes around the year. It’s basically my diary, so hopefully it’ll be a good read,’ he said.

The diary entries will be from Gawn’s perspective as he analyses the 2021 AFL season, the Demons players, the coaches and the club’s finals campaign.

‘There are so many special people that make the Melbourne footy club what it is. After 57 years, this one was for all of them,’ Gawn added.

The Melbourne ruckman said he was most excited to be able to reconnect with fans through the book after so many months of lockdown.

Gawn is also keeping busy thanks to his personal life and other ventures.

The footy star is also opening up his second bar, called The Motor, in the new year.

The Demons convincingly beat the Western Bulldogs 21.14 (140) to 10.6 (66) in last month’s AFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium in Perth.

It was Melbourne’s first premiership win since 1964 and came after the club had struggled for years at the bottom of the ladder.
